part six: police

Adam woke up and immediately looked down. He saw Kai rolled over on his stomach, half his body on the bed, half on Adam. His head was on Adam's chest and he was drooling on his shirt with his leg pulled up over Adam's.

Adam smiled, not even mad about the drool, he just wanted to watch Kai sleep. Not wanting to wake him, he propped a pillow up behind his head so he could look at Kai more comfortably. He stroked his hand through the brunettes short hair.

Kai smiled and slowly woke up at the feeling of Adam's touch and whispered "I love you Karate Kid". Adam laughed a little and whispered back "I love you too FireMan".

They laid like this for about half an hour before Adam's mom walked in. She felt awkward seeing the two laying like that, they weren't doing anything weird but she thought she was interrupting them.

"Oh, sorry sorry, I didn't mean to barge in but... Kai your parents are downstairs and would like to have a conversation with you two, me, and your dad". She gave a weak smile and left the room.

Kai let out a sigh and gave a sad, tired sounding apology. "You don't need to apologize, this could mean progress for us!" Adam rubbed Kai's back again, trying to cheer him up and give him confidence.

"Yeah sure, that's what this is..." Adam kissed Kai on the cheek, they got up, and went downstairs. When they entered the living room they saw Kai's parents on one couch, Adam's parents on the other, and one open seat next to the couch Adam's parents were on.

Adam led Kai to the chair and gestured for him to sit while he sat down on the armrest of the couch. Kai sat down in the chair, not making eye contact with his parents. They sat in awkward silence for what seemed like forever.

Finally Adam's mom asked "So, What would you like to talk about first?" She looked from Kai's mom to Kai's dad with a 'Don't say something stupid' look.

"Well" Kai's dad cleared his throat. "We have come to the agreement that since we're never really home anyway, Kai can have a boyfriend. Since we won't be there to see it he'll be much less of a disappoint". He said the last part under his breath, but everyone heard it.

Adam opened his mouth to defend Kai but stopped when he felt the shorter boy grab his hand, signaling for him not to say anything. Adam sat back with a growl, upset that he wasn't putting Kai's dad in his place.

His dad noticed this and decided to speak up for him. "Actually, we don't see the boys love disappointing at all, in fact it makes us proud! They aren't afraid of what other people say or think about it, as long as they're happy and together, nothing else matters. We as the parents have no right to take that away or stop them, we fully support them and don't see them as anything less."

Adam's dad gave the boys a smile before turning to confidently look at Kai's parents. His dad's mouth was wide open, his mom looked very pleased with the statement. Kai's dad went to speak but was cut off by his wife.

"I completely agree! It might take me a bit of getting used to the new idea but i'm open for it if it makes my Kai happy." Kai looked up in shock, he finally noticed the bruises on her face that she tried to cover with makeup.

Whenever his mom had spoken up in the past, she was hit, same deal when Kai spoke up, that's why they both had just learned not to. Now though, she was really gonna get punished. She gave Kai a look as to say 'It's ok' and stood up to give him a hug.

Kai stood and they hugged, she whispered in his ear "I'm tired of him doing this to you. It's not ok." Kai wanted to tell her she shouldn't have but instead just thanked her and said he loved her. They both leaked a few tears.

When she pulled away from the hug she wiped Kai's face with her thumbs and gave him one more reassuring look before turning to Adam. "I'm sorry things got out of hand last night, I hope you haven't been given the wrong impression, we're just a bit old fashioned, but we can change for you two."

Adam put out his hand, instead of shaking it she pulled him off the couch into a hug. Adam could kinda understand now what was going on but made a mental note to ask Kai about it later. Kai's dad stood up from the couch and silently walked out of the house.

"You don't have to go home right now mom, we can go get lunch if you want". Kai tried to keep her from what was coming but she knew it was best to just get it over with then to wait. "No thank you Kai, i'll see you soon". She kissed his cheek, thanks Adam's parents for having them, and went out to the car which sped off as soon as she sat down in it.

"Will she be ok?" Adam's mom asked. Kai looked out the window at the fresh skid marks on the road for a while before finally saying "I hope so". The taller boy put a hand on his shoulder, causing Kai to turn around and fall into Adam's tight grasp.

"Wanna take a walk?" Adam asked, trying to get them alone. After a moment Kai nodded up and down and they walked outside. They had been walking for about ten minutes before Adam felt comfortable bringing it up.

He swallowed and shifted around before asking "Does he abuse you guys?" No response. He looked over to see Kai with a stone face expression. "I'm so sorry, neither of you deserve it. You know that right?"

Kai sighed. "Yeah I know but, What is there to do". "We could call the police". Kai looked up at Adam, he was looking straight into Kai's eyes, completely serious.

Kai returned Adam's eye contact. "Ok". He managed to quietly squeak it out. Adam put his arms around Kai and gave him a tight hug before taking his hand. "Okay then, let's go do it". They began walking back to Adam's house.
