Dwight Mathers and his wife Audrey sat in the office of Donny Brooks, private eye. The wooden seat they sat in were rather uncomfortable but they weren’t here to talk about the seating. They were holding a meeting to get all the new information out into the open.

It was early in the morning; Dwight had taken a half day from the council house to be here with Donny. He kept going on about how difficult it was to obtain the morning off on the week of the elections. The town was buzzing as the public cast their vote.

As they sat at the desk they waited for Donny to finish making his coffee. Audrey shuffled in the chair, slightly uncomfortable. Dwight watched Audrey who eyed Donny who’s back was facing them. She turned her head to Dwight and made a biting motion at him. It was sexy and gorgeous and Dwight felt himself waft. He felt her hand meander down to his thin lap and squeeze tightly. Oh my god, not now. However much he longed for it to be now but they couldn’t right now. He watched her race her hands up her stockings.

Dwight leaned into Audrey and whispered into her ear. ‘‘Later on tiger, you and me.’’

She looked pleased by this and smiled. Donny quickly turned around with a mug of coffee in his hand and sat down at the desk. He wore a crisp white shirt and braces that sat on his shirt. Stubble sat on his face that looked dishevelled and tired. Dwight wondered why. He soon remembered that Donny’s wife would soon be having a child. He was glad he’d never mentioned that to Audrey. She didn’t need another reason to dislike Donny.

Dwight spoke first. ‘‘So Donny, have you any updates on the case? You go first as you are the detective in this equation.’’

Donny raised his head. ‘‘It’s been an uneventful week. I have been researching and trying to get some information from my sources. Particularly on the Falconis and this third party you were talking about at the Anathema Ball. I can’t get anything, no photos, no documents, no reports, nothing. They are untraceable.’’

‘‘Probably because those thugs have got the mayor on their side,’’ Audrey noted.

Donny nodded at her. ‘‘Yes, perfectly plausible. Though I just can’t grab anything. I have been investigating some local sources around town. I stumbled into your wife a few days ago. In the Gentlemen’s Club, I believe it was.’’ Donny took another sip of coffee and watched the turmoil unfold.

 ‘‘What were you doing there?’’

‘‘Investigating, as a matter of fact.’’ Dwight could see her pursed lips and folded arms meaning that she was susceptible to deny anything that was asked.

Audrey continued, ‘‘And Mr. Brooks here rudely dismissed me. I was only trying to help. We’re all on the same side here.’’ She crossed her legs in disdain.

He was astounded. ‘‘You were in the Gentlemen’s club? You high and mighty with your, ‘that infernal place’. That is so rich, if you ask me.’’

‘‘I don’t think anyone did Dwight,’’ Donny grumbled.

‘‘Don’t talk to him like that!’’, Audrey yelled.

‘‘Excuse me but I can talk any way to anyone I’d like!’’

 ‘‘You can not.’’

Dwight sighed. He thought that all the trouble between the pair had been cleared up. It was distressing and interfered with the case. ‘‘Enough!’’, he bellowed.

The pair stopped bickering and reasserted themselves into normal temperament. Audrey looked scorned and flicked her hair with a sense of fury. Her anger was clear on her face.
