"HARRY JAMES POTTER!" Echoed Ron and Hermione's voices throughout the train station.
Sprinting up to his friends and panting, Harry weakly defended, "Sorry, sorry! You guys know being on time is not my strong point..."
"That is precisely our point, mate-" Ron began.
"Oi! You can't say that Ron, you hypocrite!" Harry laughed, playfully punching his best friend's shoulder. Ron blushed looking down, shuffling his feet and offering an awkward smile.
"Well I most certainly can, Harry. Honestly, it is the start of our 8th year in Hogwarts, you would expect you to come on time at least today! I can't believe it, even Ronald was able to make it!"
"That was because mum was basically kicking me out of the house..." Ron mumbled quietly into Harry's ear. They turned to look at each other with grins on their faces, then began to giggle in an uncontrollable fit.
Speechless with disbelief, Hermione shook her head and glared at them both the boys. "You have got to be kidding me..." She muttered while rubbing her temples, "You boys are going to be the death of me." They all started laughing together, enjoying the missed the company of their best friends over the break.
The whistle of the train rang loud through the students, alerting them to quickly board the train.
"We have to go to the compartment at the front now, Harry, since we still are perfects after all..." Hermione trailed, feeling upset for leaving him alone already.
"Yeah, we're sorry Harry, but we'll see you soon, alright?" Ron cheered, smiling at his best mate.
"Wha- oh, yeah, of course guys! You don't need to apologize for that!" Harry smiled.
"Right, well we better go now, see ya' mate!" Ron shouted waving his whole arm, beaming. Shaking his head with fondness, Harry grabbed his trunk and headed for inside the train.
He walked through the hallway, looking for any empty or compartments with his other friends. Stopping to wave or greet anyone he knew, he eventually found a disclosed one near the back of the train. He picked up his trunk and lifted it to put it on the rack above the seats. Reaching up, Harry tried to push the suitcase himself. Struggling, he went on his tippy toes. 'Ugh! This is not working!' Harry thought annoyed at his height.
After many minutes of practically wrestling the trunk, climbing on the seats, and trying to throw it up the rack, Harry gave up with an angry sigh. He plopped down on the chair ungracefully, arms crossed and a pout on his face. He had still to notice the smirking, amused face of Draco Malfoy stood leaning against the door.
Trying once again, Harry got up and reached up with his trunk. Then it began to fall, about to land directly on Harry's head. He closed his eyes and moved his arms to defend his head, but he never felt the hit. Confused, he opened his eyes and looked up. There was Draco Malfoy holding his trunk up and placing it onto the rack easily. Gawking with a small bit of jealousy, Harry eyed him and his long arms and legs.
"Close your mouth Potter, wouldn't want you choking on flies now, would we?" Draco hummed, looking at his nails.
"Wha-" Harry stuttered, "Why did you help me, and when did you get so damn tall?"
"I didn't grow that much you dunce, it's just that you are extremely short," He deadpanned. Draco held his hand over Harry's head and brought it to himself, showing them that Harry's head hardly reached Draco's shoulders.
"Piss off, it's not that much of a difference," Harry rolled his eyes. A look from Malfoy that said 'are you serious right now' shut him up. "Anyway, what do you want Malfoy? Did you just come here to insult me again?" Harry asked.
"Actually," Malfoy started with a voice that sounded quite nervous, "I wanted to apologize for the past few years." Harry looked at him wide eyed and scanned him checking if this was a prank. When finishing without finding harm, he waved his hand to Draco, implying that he could continue.
"Well, firstly I'm sorry for the bullying throughout the years to you, Mudbl-Granger and Weasley, for the part I played in the war, for the fire in the ROR... Just, I'm sorry for everything. You don't have to forgive me, and we don't have to be friends, but I just wanted to apologize. Also thank you for saving my life back there..." Draco said, offering a shy smile and holding his hand out to shake like all those years ago. His eyes held hope, yet also fear of rejection again.
Harry was dumbstruck by his words and sincerity. He composed himself with the biggest smile, grinning ear-to-ear, and grabbed Draco's hand. "Of course we can be friends, and I'm sorry too. I also should thank you for saving my ass back at the Manor," He laughed. Draco looked up to meet his eyes, you could clearly see relief in them.
"Thank you."
They sat in the compartment chatting for hours about anything and everything. However, soon, they got off the train and parted their ways. While all the first years were sorted, McGonagall brought all the 8th years outside to tell them about their arrangements. Ron and Hermione listened, not noticing Harry hopping around to try and get a glimpse of McGonagall over people's heads.
"Hey, Shorty!" Came the unmistakable voice of none other than Draco Malfoy.
"Huh?" Harry turned around to look up at the boy, "Yes, Mal-Draco? You need something?"
"Oh, nothing scarhead, just wanted to know why you didn't pack a stool. I mean we all know you can't grow for the life of you," Malfoy smirked. Harry glared at him, but lacking the usual venom and hatred in it.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding!" Draco defended, raising his hands in mock surrender. "I actually wanted to ask if you wanted to sit on my shoulders to see?" He said only just realizing how that sounded, "I mean not if that's too awk-" He was cut off by Harry basically leaping up on him and swinging his legs over. Plopping his head on his own arms, which were resting on Draco's blonde hair, he smiled.
"It's all good."
After the speech, only then did everyone notice Harry Potter sitting on his enemy, Draco Malfoy's, shoulders, both grinning. They all walked together to their new dormitories in loud whispers and murmuring of rumors.
Hopping down, Harry spoke up, "Thanks for the ride Dray- whoa!" Stumbling forward and almost falling, Harry was saved again by Draco. He was holding Harry closely to not fall. Locked tight in the embrace, Harry squirmed turning around to face Draco. Still hugging, their faces were now mere inches away from the other's.
Subconsciously leaning forward, they both met in the center, where their lips slowly conjoined. By now almost everyone had gone upstairs to their bedrooms already in exhaustion. When the two boys parted from the kiss, Draco looked down at Harry while Harry stared back up into each other's eyes.
"You are going to give me a double-chin from looking down at you, Harry." Draco whispered, receiving a slap on the arm.
Harry huffed, "Way to ruin the moment!"
Smiling fondly, Draco said, "I know we just became actual friends, but would you go out with me? I think I might fancy you by a bit."
"Of course, you prick."

A few months later, it was not uncommon to see Harry on Draco's shoulders yelling 'giddy up pony' with a fake lasso chasing the other members of the golden trio. It was not uncommon to see Draco giving Harry forehead kisses while mumbling 'you're adorable.' It was not uncommon to see Harry having to go on his tippy toes to kiss Draco on the lips then staring into each other's eyes. It was not uncommon to see many shared hugs between the two with Draco's head buried in Harry's neck. And finally, it was not uncommon to see Harry falling of shelves in the castle from trying to get something, only to land safely into Draco's arms.
Everyone could agree they were the cutest couple, and their height difference only made it cuter.
