I woke up with sun in my eyes.
I walked downstairs to find my mom smiling for once.
"Uh, you alright mom?" I asked, not sure.
"Of course sweetie!" She said excitedly. "I was just thinking, you're almost seventeen now, and I think it's time I lent you your fathers old car."
I stared at her in shock. "D-dad's car? You'd let me drive it?"
She smiled widely. "Of course, luv! Let's go try it out!"
We drove around the block for a while until I felt comfortable again. It had been a long while since I first learned to drive.
I pulled back into our driveway. "Well," said my mom. "You're off on your own now! Don't have too much fun." She warned playfully.
"Alright mom." I laughed.
I pulled out feeling like I could just do anything.
And I really could.
I turned up the radio. The Who's new single 'La-La-La Lies' came blasting through the car speakers.
I began to sing along. Maybe I'll go pick up Mike today, I thought.
And right as this thought crossed my mind, my eyes left the road for a couple seconds.
When my eyes returned to the road, there was a young man in the middle of the road right in front of me.
He seemed to not notice me so I slammed on the brakes.
It was too late. The front of my car smashed right into this poor pedestrian.
When the car stopped I screamed, "HOLY SHIT! I JUST RAN SOMEONE OVER! OH MY GOD!"
I got out of the car, shaking uncontrollably, I walked to the front of the vehicle.
There laid a beautiful looking young man.
But I had just run him over so he was pretty banged up.
I checked for pulse and thankfully found one.
I hauled him into the backseat of my car.
I was not just going to sit in the middle of the road and wait for him to wake.
As I shoved him into the backseat, I noticed the strange looks I was getting.
I hopped back into the drivers seat and drove away from the scene.
I didn't know where to go.
I couldn't go home, mom would kill me. I didn't want to go to John's cause that would be weird. So I guess I'd have to bring him to Mike's.
I kept looking back at the young man I had just hit, making sure he wasn't waking up or anything.
I tried to not speed, but it was no good.
I was going very fast trying to get this man help as soon as possible.
I flew into Mikes driveway. And ran up to his door and started to bang on it.
"MIKE! MIKE OPEN YOUR DAMN DOOR!" I screamed. "I JUST RAN OVER THIS GUY AND I NEED HELP!"
The door swung open. "You did what?!" Mike yelled, confused.
I was quite breathless, although I hadn't done much. "I-I ran over a guy, and he's In the backseat of my car. I knew I couldn't go home cause mom would kill me, so I just came here."
He shook his head and we ran down to my car.
I opened the door and we carried him up the stairs to Mikes couch.
"Alese, how the hell did this happen?" Mike asked.
I covered my face with my hands and said, "Well The Who was on, and I was just thinking about going to your house, and I looked at something other than the road, and when I turned my eyes back to the road, he was just there!"
He just shook his head. "Well what do we do about it?"
I studied the beautiful man on the couch.
"We should probably clean him up." I said. "Go get a washcloth and a bowl of water."
Mike returned with the stuff I had told him to get, and I wiped his face of all specks of blood and dirt.
And just as I finished, he began to stir.
His eyes fluttered open to reveal soft brown doe eyes, with beautiful long lashes.
He sat up and winced.
"Wh-?" He looked around and noticed he wasn't where he remembered last being, or at his house, or anywhere he recognized. "Where am I? Who are you?" He questioned.
"Uhm...." I started sheepishly. "Well I hit you with my car, and I had no where else to take you but here, I'm sorry. Oh and my name is Alese Carden."
He finally saw Mike and said, "Wait your John's friend, aren't you? Mike, was it?"
Mike had a dumb look on his face for a split second then seem to come to his senses. "Uh yeah that's right. And you must be Paul."
Paul smiled a nodded.
Paul? The bassist that was sick the one night we went to see them play?
"So you hit me with your car?" Paul Asked.
"Hah yeah..." I rubbed the back of my neck. "I really didn't mean to, I was just so in the moment. I should've been watchin' the road, but The Who was on and I was just bein' dumb."
He laughed. "The 'Oo, eh? Well they are quite good. And I seem to be fine so no harm done, luv!"
I loosened up a bit at his calmness with the whole situation.
"So you're John's bassist, eh?" I Asked finally.
Paul nodded. "I am indeed."
"Well I'm John's girlfriend." I smiled and put out my hand.
He shook it and raised his eyebrows. "John's girl, eh? Be careful with that one. He can be trouble, and we would want such a beautiful girl like yourself getting hurt." He said cheerfully, with a hint of flirtation? I sure hoped not.
His comment about John being trouble rang in my ears.
I had heard of him being trouble but went for it anyway.
I noticed Paul staring at me intently. I blushed deep red and looked away.
"Aw don't be shy, luv! I won't bite ya!" Paul said as he stared.
But I wasn't so sure he wouldn't bite me.
He just seemed like the type to go after girls with boyfriends.
And I just happened to fit the bill.
