CHAPTER TWO
LOOKALIKE [CONAN GRAY]╚────── ・ 。゚*.☽ .* :☆゚.──────╝
"Hey C!" Nova yelled as she entered Carter's house, inhaling the scent of fresh laundry and everything rich.
"Oh, Nova!" His mom spoke from the foyer, not-so-subtly looking her up and down before speaking again, "I thought you were upstairs honey?" She asked.
Nova and Carter's parents had never gotten along too well, they didn't exactly approve of her personality, or the way she dressed. She had far more personality than any of the Kooks and had this weird habit of being herself all the time. Aside from Nova herself, they weren't exactly accepting of where she came from either, as her dad was well known for always looking for some form of cracked out.
Carter's mom worried about him, nervous that the girl would disappear on her precious son like Nova's father did. Because of her negative connotation surrounding the girl she never made an effort to get to know her, which is why it didn't surprise Nova that she didn't recognize that the girl upstairs wasn't her son's girlfriend.
"Um, I just got here, who's upstairs Mrs. Monroe?" She asked, her voice wavering when it finally hit her what was going on. Nova started heading up the stairs, ignoring whatever the woman was about to say next, desperate to try and prove her wrong. Carter loved her, Mrs. Monroe was probably just seeing things.
Nova turned left at the staircase, running to the only familiar room in the house. She steadied herself when she heard the faint moaning through the door. Whatever was left of her heart shattering the second she let it all come clear.
She flung open the door, seeing the familiar blonde girl on top of her boyfriend, Sarah Cameron. She thought to herself, finally understanding Kiaras hatred for the rich girl.
"What the fuck?" Sarah yelled, looking from Carter to the door and back to Carter again.
Nova watched as she hit him in the head, rolling her eyes and strutted towards the door.
Nova grabbed her wrist as she tried to leave, "What the fuck is right. Why the hell are you all over my boyfriend?" She asked, glaring daggers into Sarah's eyes, the blonde giving her a confused look.
"Boyfriend?" Sarah spoke meanly, looking back to Carter, staring at the girls and watching as his two worlds seemed to collide.
"Look okay, someone better tell me what the fuck is going on here before I beat all your asses." Nova seethed, rolling her eyes and biting her lip.
"Oh I bet" Sarah taunted, referring to the height difference between the girls. Nova was a few inches shorter than Sarah, sitting at 5'4.
"Carter get your deadbeat ass over here and explain yourself." The small girl spoke sternly, moving her brunette hair behind her ear as she spoke.
"Yeah um, sorry Nov." He spoke, throwing his shirt back on before trying to walk out the door, both girls putting out their arms, blocking him from leaving the room. His face was red, all the blood rushing up as he gulped, trying to come up with an explanation for his mistake.
"Look Nova, I'm gonna be honest, it's exactly what it looks like." He gushed, pushing through the girls arms, trying to escape his house while he could.
The girls let him go, confused and shattered why he would do such a thing to both of them.
"Nova," Sarah spoke softly, looking the girl in her eyes, paying attention to the way they were glazed over, empty looking.
"I didn't know you guys were a thing, he didn't ever mention anything about you and I-"
"Look Sarah," Nova announced, glancing up at her regretful and guilty expression, giving her a soft smile as if to say that it's okay, "You don't need to explain yourself to me. We both got played, it's fine. Let's skip the sorrow okay, I'm not sure if I can handle anymore pity right now. Got it?"
Sarah nodded gingerly, mirroring her smile with one of her own. She couldn't help it, she knew everything that had happened to Nova in the last year, hating herself for unknowingly adding to the chaos that was the girls everyday life.
Nova found herself moving quickly through the house, her movements and thoughts blurring in her head, overwhelmed by her urge to drink something, anything. She was desperate to try and drown the sad feelings before they had a chance to erupt inside of her. Hoping to shove the feeling of betrayal farther down in her internal graveyard, saving the tears to deal with on another day.
She didn't have anywhere to go really, not having any friends on this side of the island. She fished her phone out from her pocket, looking through her contacts for her brother.
She called him, listening to the hum of the ring, sighing when she was greeted with his voicemail box instead of his voice.
She scrolled down, dialing the next number on her list of people she trusted with her life.
Kiara answered next, explaining to Nova that she was working at 'The Wreck' all night but she could have JJ pick her up instead. Nova happily obliged, always enjoying something with her favorite stoner best friend, fully aware that he was probably the best option for her right now.
She sat on the grass in front of Carters house, staring at the ground, waiting for the van to pull up and for JJ to be the one driving.
She glanced back at the house, scoffing when she saw Carter's parents staring at her in their yard. Looking at her as if she was some sort of pest they had to eliminate, something they didn't want their neighbors to see.
She was drawn out of her trance into the sound of obnoxious Bob Marley, screeching tires, and JJ's happy laughs.
Smiling to herself, she giggled when she saw JJ in the front seat, singing along to the music unapologetically.
"Hey pretty girl,"
