"help me decide!" louis exclaimed, running his hands through his hair roughly as he stared ahead at his computer screen. there was a recipe for red velvet cake and for another for chocolate. "i can't pick one, harry! stop pressuring me!"

harry raised his eyebrows, a bit taken aback. he had just been standing there, looking over louis' shoulder as he tried to plan for the party tomorrow. louis had been stressing all night. it was now one in the morning.

"let's just hang the lights," harry suggested. "so we can get one thing done with." he hugged his arms around himself and stumbled a bit over his own feet as he began to walk towards the box of lights. they were all rainbow, as louis had a slight obsession with all things rainbow. even his sheets had little rainbows on them.

"okay," louis sighed. harry could tell louis was trying so hard to not be mean, but he also knew that louis got quite sassy when he was mad, and especially if he was tired. in this case, he was both. so harry decided not to take anything the shorter boy said too personally. instead, he took a deep breath and placed both of his hands on louis' waist.

"get on my shoulders," he said gently. "i'm not tall enough on my own."

louis gave him a questioning look. the lilac colour beneath his lids and the disheveled state of his honey brown hair made it clear that he was not in the mood for anything fun. what he needed was to get under his rainbow sheets and cuddle up to his pillow while harry did all the work. but, harry wasn't tall enough. he gave louis an empathetic smile before sitting down in front of the boy. harry was surprised when he heard a little chuckle behind him.

"you have no idea what is going through my head right now," louis said, his voice tired but it had a hint of something exciting. harry couldn't help but smile. rolling his eyes and grabbing the back of louis' legs to move him over his shoulders. he smiled when louis' legs pressed against his cheek, and then he smiled even wider when he realised that louis' legs were so short and his bare feet barely went down his torso.

"grab the lights before i stand up," harry said fondly, watching as louis struggled to reach over and pick up a string of lights. harry clutched the clips that the lights would hang on in his right hand and he held onto louis' knee with his left.

"should i even have this party?" louis asked, letting out a loud yawn as harry stumbled over to the wall. he handed louis a clip to put on the wall, and then louis clipped a part of the lights on. they continued this method as they circled around the room. it was cool to look outside and see all the city lights and occasional cars that caused shadows to reflect all throughout the dim lit apartment. harry couldn't wait to plug the lights in and see what they looked like.

"am i too heavy?" louis asked worriedly, after a few minutes of silence. "i feel like i'm weighing you down. you're breathing all heavy and that."

harry stopped. "i'm not breathing heavy at all, lou."

the boys sat there for a few seconds, harry giving louis a break for his arms as he repeated the words he had always said himself when he stopped eating for a few months. he hated hearing something like that escape louis' lips, especially since louis' body was one of his favorite things in the world. he loved the curve of his waist, and he loved the way he could always grip onto louis' hips. he was soft, so soft and he didn't want louis to dislike that about himself.

"let's just get this done with it. i feel like i'm gonna fall asleep on your shoulders and that wouldn't be good."

harry nodded, spinning them in circles a bit as he examined the room. he couldn't tell what it looked like because they weren't plugged in, but he couldn't plug them in until they were done. they probably would need another few minutes.
