❝he's gross!❞

❝he's not like us! he's an alien!❞

❝alien! alien! stupid alien!❞

❝what a creep! he doesn't belong here!❞

the group of children surrounded the crying little robot, shouting insults carelessly and recklessly that crushed the poor boy's heart.

this was his first day out of the house, and he decided to go the park as his first destination. being new to this place, all he wanted to do was to make friends.

and then suddenly hands were all on him, shoving him to the concrete ground where a sharp rock scabbed his knee, leaving synthetic blood to flow from the new wound. the tears never seemed to stopped as the humiliation continued to pour down onto his shoulders. tiny sobs left his mouth as he raised his hands up to defend himself from the kids that constantly kicked his sides.

❝get away from my nana!❞

another boy appeared and shoved his way through the crowd, practically roaring at the top of his lungs. a frown was drawn across his face, huffing and growling at the group of kids like a rouge wolf.

❝oh here comes the stupid alien's knight 'n shining armor!❞ the eldest boy of the group proclaimed snobbishly, giving jaemin a final hard kick in his face. ❝he's just a robot! mom says 'em fake!❞

that my friend, was the final straw.

the robot watched in horror as the raven-haired boy lunged toward the latter, delivering a big blow to the jaw with his eight year-old fists. he straddled the assailant and continued to punch him until he heard a tiny voice whimper his name.

❝jeno hyung.❞ he turned to jaemin who gently shook his head and offered him a small smile whilst tears stained his cheeks. the said boy stood from his position and scared the bystanders away with his killer glare.

he leaned down to the boy below him and growled into his ear, ❝he's not just a robot! and never again touch my nana...❞ the latter nodded fearfully and bolted away in tears to cry to his mother.

he stood proudly before scooping his little nana into his arms, settling himself onto the ground his the robot in his lap. the younger by two years refused to look into his eyes, preferring to hide his face into jeno's neck.

❝nana can you look at me?❞ when jaemin didn't coincide shaking his head―the older continued to beg, ❝please nana~.❞ and lee jeno never says please.

but instead the little robot squirmed in his spot, signaling he didn't want to.

❝fine don't look at me, just listen alright.❞

❝na jaemin you're the smartest, most beautiful person in the whole world! you're no just a robot, but to me you are more than that! you are my everything! don't let their words get to you because they are absolutely lying. i'll always be there to protect you nana and i'll ―never― ever ―leave you!❞ jaemin peeked at the older's face and a beautiful smile graced his face when jeno squished his chubby cheeks with his own chubby fingers. he wiped away his tears with his sleeves and embraced the younger.

❝p-pwomise?❞ the six year old hiccuped, clinging onto jeno's slightly broader torso.

❝i promise!❞ he landed his lips against jaemin's forehead, placing a beautiful white rose that he picked out of the garden just for the younger, into his chestnut hair.

❝i love you nana!❞

jaemin smiled remembering the older boy say those three words to him eleven years ago. it didn't mean as much to his six year-old self but as he grew older, it continued to impact his way of thinking and before he knew it; the robot has been growing feelings for the latter.

sometimes when he needed to hear those words the most, he'd close his eyes and remember all the times jeno would tell him he loved the robot. as if he mattered. as if he was really loved.

but here; right before his eyes, his eyes stung upon watching him hold someone else. his ears rang upon hearing the three words be confessed to someone else.

someone else that wasn't him.

his mechanics whirred in fury at the sight, a spark igniting in his wires―burning his insides the bitter taste of sadness and jealously left a disgusting aftertaste within his mouth as the older let the words roll off his tongue as if it was the most normal thing to say.
