This is not because I ship hamgelica. I just don't see it really.

In the musical, they never actually meet. Yes she mentions she planned to tell him to include women in the sequel but that was it.

In real life they were close friends, writing to one another. Angelica held a quite flirtatious manner when around Jefferson. Take the former as you will, but Angelica was a smart woman and she knew if she had it she should flaunt it, especially when it came to persuading powerful men. Sudden realisation that musical Maria and historical Angelica were quite alike.

They were relatively close but when Jefferson went back to America Angelica had asked him about the French Revolution and that he should help some of her friends whom were bourgeoisie and being threatened with execution. He wrote back to her telling her 'weren't women happier when they weren't involved in politics' this did not bode well with Angelica and conversation later ceased.

Despite this Angelica did write to Alexander about Jefferson's affair with Hemmings before Jefferson got back to America. Allowing Alexander to paint his portrait of his future foe pre-introduction.
