"Rebecca, some of the girls here at the party are competing and are probably gonna try and freak you out. Ok?" Drake was explaining to me who was going to this bonfire as I had only met a few of his friends at the previous one. He had informed me that Selena would be there and would be competing, same with Bethany. We walked together into the clearing full of people. Everyone stops and stares at us, me leaning on Drake for support and Drake with an arm wrapped around my shoulders. Selena shoves her way through the crowd along with one other girl.
"Well well well, what do we have here? Another girl drooling over you Drake, might I say after what happened last time I'm surprised any girl would be that close to you." Selena's voice is dripping with jealousy.
A look of uncertainty flashes in my eyes and I whisper to Drake "What is she talking about?"
Drake went to answer but Selena cut him off, "Oh you didn't hear? He drags you into a false sense of security then basically takes the one thing you love."
"Drake I-"
"Selena leave her alone. Just because I let you go after seeing your true self doesn't mean I would do it to others. Plus, she, unlike you, is a genuine girl not some fake, bossy, jealous-" Selena stormed off before Drake could finish. Everyone smiled and a few people clapped. I smiled nervously and shook Drake's arm off of my shoulders and stood straight while keeping all my weight on my good leg. Drake looked at me and went to say something then thought and said "Why don't you go find Bethany and alk to her about the competition?" I nodded and walked/limped to a group of girls. Bethany was talking to a red head and they were laughing. I decided to go say hi just as Selena blocked my path.
"Rebecca I want you to meet Grace." Selena said in a calmed voice.
"Are you showing?" Grace asked in a sly voice.
"Y-yes I am."
"With what?" Selena challenged.
"My horse, Cloud."
"Oh you mean that gray thing? I hardly think you'll qualify for last place!" Selena laughed.
"And why do you care." I shot back.
"Oh no reason." She started to walk away then stopped herself, "And what's wrong with your leg?" She turned and jabbed me in the ankle with her boot. A sharp sense of pain blew up my leg and I gasped in pain. "Oops sorry! I didn't mean it!" She put on a puppy face and I winced as I stood up straight.
"Leave me alone." I snapped.
She smirked and whispered "Oh and if I were you I wouldn't tell Drake about-" She flipped a piece of hair out of her face, "Our little discussion." She smiled and walked away. I no longer wanted to talk to Bethany I limped away from the group and to the hidden trail Drake showed me last time. I walked through the bushes to the clearing and sat down. I glanced at my ankle and sighed, a bruise was already forming. A hand grasped my arm and I shrieked.
"Hey its ok it me." A familiar voice cooed from behind me. Drake sat down next to me and looked at my ankle. "What happened?" He asked gently pressing on the bruise.
"I-I hit a tree stump." I stumbled over words. He glanced at my face and I smiled nervously.
"Hmm Ok, do you wanna go back home?" He asked me.
"Um sure. I guess, sorry I ruined your night." I sighed glancing at my hand.
"Hey the night wasn't wasted! I had fun I just wanted you to get to know some of the other girls." He smiled and got up holding a hand out for me. I grabbed him and he pulled me up. I leaned on his shoulder and he wrapped an arm around me like we had walked in. I smiled, everything was going to be fine.
