Chapter Twelve: Her Ultimate Sacrifice
Vanna's POV
Luke glared at me. He swung his knives at me. I quickly dodged them. I raised my arrow prepared to shoot him when the water started rumbling and a huge wave surfaced, a tsunami! I gasped in shock, Luke was pretty shocked too. I started running for high ground but the water swept me from my feet. I screamed. Water went into my lungs. I fought against the strong currents trying to get air. The tsunami grew higher, it threw me like a rag doll. I saw high ground, I could only grab on the railing. Not far behind me, I saw Luke trying to swim, but he was fighting a war he couldn't win. I looked around. I was a murderer, what good is life when you have the blood of another's stained on your hands. I thought of my mom waiting at home. My family. My friends. They all were good people, innocent. Marmite and Terra would've lived if it hasn't been for me. With new courage filling me up, I went under and grabbed Luke with my hands, using all of my might I heaved Luke up. It was hard trying to stay afloat with a boy in your arms. I saw the railing. Using my belt, I tied it to an arrow, making sure it was sturdy, I looped it around Luke's waist then taking aim I shot it on the platform. I watched as Luke was pulled along with it. I smiled with satisfaction when I heard the groan and thud of Luke falling into safety. He got up and looked down seeing me. I waved at him and smiled brightly. Luke looked confused then realization dawned on him. He started tugging on the belt looped around him, but I shook my head. Using my last bit of energy I sucked in a deep breath and yelled "Thank You!"
Then I let my body go slack. I moved with the flow of the water. My lungs begged for air but I didn't give them any. Finally my vision started to go fuzzy with black dots, when finally I was engulfed in darkness. I welcomed death with both arms, going, was easy, peaceful. Thinking hard I let my last thought ring out.
"I'm sorry, mom"
Luke's POV
I saw her body sink into the sea. My eyes was in shock. I knew what happened and I knew in my mind why. She made the ultimate sacrifice-for me. She also did it to prove she is not a murderer, but a person to be remembered for years.
Vanna sacrificed herself for Luke and two other innocent people-Marmite and Terra. Luke won the ninth round and along with Maya and Bryn is taken into the new arena.
