"It's nice to meet you, sir

"It's nice to meet you, sir." I said, reaching out to shake his hand.

Again his rough laughter came and he shook his head. I knew it was Vincent and Dimitri's uncle. I saw some resemblance to both of the Sinclair brothers, but not completely. I wondered if he had a striking resemblance to their parents.

"Call me Archie." He said. "My boys aren't home at the moment, but they shouldn't be long. Come in and have a seat."

Archie held the door open for me and invited me in. Stepping inside I felt the warmness engulf me. My face stung from the lack of heat the outside was providing.

"Would you like something to drink?" Archie asked.

"No thank you. I was hoping I could find Vincent here. I called him, but I didn't get a response from him."

"No worries. I'm actually glad you stopped by. I think the last time I saw you you were merely a newborn. You've grown so much since then."

I felt like my jaw hit the floor. He knew who I was and obviously he had to know who my parents were. I didn't know if I wanted to cry or run away. No one really talked about my mom or my past.

"You know who I am?"

"I've known your family for years. You're the spitting image of your mother. She was a very beautiful woman."

"My dad doesn't talk about my mom too often."

"It's understandable. Your mother was...different. She was loving and very smart. It was hard not to care about a kind soul like hers."

I was sure I wanted to cry. It made me jealous that I never got to know my mom like that. All the memories I had were blurry and there were now few that I could remember.

"Do you know-"

The door opened and we both looked up. Dimitri and Vincent walked inside the house, and it looked like they knew I was there. I was taken back by the cold look Dimitri shot me. Vincent just seemed to be slightly surprised.

"What are you doing here?" Dimitri asked, frowning.

"Your dad let me in." I said, then looked at Vincent. "Can I talk to you? Alone?"

"You need to leave." Dimitri protested.

"Dimitri." Archie warned.

"I'll be back, Archie." Vincent said, taking my hand.

Vincent took me through the kitchen and out the back door. The yard stretched out to the woods. He continued walking until we almost reached the cover of the trees.

"What's Dimitri's problem?" I asked.

"Don't mind him. He's going through some things. Since our parents passed he hasn't been the same. He's struggling, but he's fine."
