"Chloe?"
I stirred and my eyes slowly fluttered open. My dad was looking down at me and I felt disoriented for a moment. I had hoped that everything was a terrible dream. Waking up I realized that it wasn't a dream.
"Where's Kyle?" I shot up.
I couldn't believe I had fallen asleep taking care of him. It had taken me hours to clean the house and I tried to call my dad several times. It was the most difficult experience I had even been through.
"Calm down," my dad tried to keep me sitting down.
I ended up laying down on the couch. I was still wearing the same blood stained clothes. Either he noticed it and decided to say nothing, or he simply didn't care. I started thinking that maybe my dad didn't have a heart.
"Kyle is at home and he's recovering. He told me what happened and who helped him." He sighed heavily and gave me a disapproving look. "I am thankful that Vincent helped Kyle, but this only makes things harder. He is not a good person, Chloe, and I wish you would understand that."
"He saved Kyle. How could he be a bad person?"
"There are things you don't understand. I will have to get people involved in order to clean up the mess Archer Sinclair created. That's not something I want. People will be hurt or maybe even killed."
"What do you mean? Dad, what the hell is going on?"
"You're not ready to know."
I looked at him incredulously. I wasn't ready to know. Someone was bleeding out in our kitchen and he didn't find that as a big deal. Vincent had the same scars as Kyle. I didn't know how much more weird things could get in order for me to be ready to know.
"Dad, are you in some kind of trouble? I'm sure there's someone we can go to for help if people are after you. Maybe we can-"
"I'm not in that kind of trouble, Chloe. This is the last we will speak of this incident. Get yourself cleaned up and try to get some sleep."
He got up and walked away from me leaving me more confused than what I already was. How could he just throw this all under the rug? This was something that I couldn't forget and I would find out soon.
I tiredly made my way up the stairs and to the bathroom to shower. My muscles started to ache from scrubbing the floors. Kyle was still laying on the island when I finished. I knew I would have to eventually clean it up. Right now all I wanted to do was crawl under my sheets and sleep.
The warm water was soothing and I stayed longer than I should have. I was dragging my feet by the time I made it into my room. The last of my energy was used on changing into a pair of pajamas. My eyes closed as soon as my head hit the pillow.
