 We didn't talk

We didn't talk. Even now as Vincent carried me away we didn't speak a word. I ignored the fact that he was completely naked. I laid my head on his chest and closed my eyes.

"This is how your friend died." Was the first thing he said.

I figured just as much but hearing it was different. Vincent pretty much gave me the clue and I just had to put everything back together. There was still one thing I didn't understand. How could Maya die from something like this? Didn't she just need to be scratched or bitten?

"H-how?"

"When you thought she went missing we were watching over her. She got scratched and her body was rejecting the change."

"That can happen?"

"There's still so much you don't know. Just because you're bitten or scratched doesn't guarantee that you'll become a werewolf."

The realization quickly sunk in. "Vincent, I-I was scratched."

"I know. Everything will be okay. I'll take care of you."

I zoned out a little after I had finally stopped crying. When I opened my eyes we were in a moving vehicle. I was still in Vincent's arms. He looked at me and gave me a sad smile. He brushed my hair out of my face and let the tips of his fingers trail along my cheek.

I felt warm but my whole body was frozen in shock. Every time I closed my eyes I saw a wolf. Sometimes I would picture Maya lying on the ground dead. I didn't want to think about that right now.

"Where are we?" I asked.

"I had Dimitri pick us up. We're going to my house. Archie has to take a look at you and we'll have to call your dad."

I shook my head. "How am I going to explain this to him?"

"It might be easier than you think. Your dad knows about werewolves, Chloe, because he's one too."

The car stopped and I closed my eyes. I shook my head not wanting to know what else there was. I didn't want to hear any more. I thought I could possibly handle the truth but I was wrong. So wrong.

I felt Vincent lift me in his arms and the cool air hit my skin. It felt like needles pricking at my skin. When I felt the warm air hit me I knew we were safely inside Vincent's home. He shouted for Archie and continued to walk with me in his arms.

I felt cool sheets under me and my head lay on a pillow. I opened my eyes and looked around at Vincent's room. The sun shined through the window lighting up his room. I looked at Vincent and was relieved to see he had some clothes on. Behind him Dimitri stood shirtless and only with sweat pants on.

"I don't think he's here yet. I'll go call for him." Dimitri said.

I caught his eyes and I saw something in them. Sadness? Maybe...guilt? Whatever it was left me confused.
