We stood as non suspiciously as possible beside a few cop cars before Jace and Clary came outside. Alec dragged me behind him as he walked right up to them.
"Did you get it?" Alec asks.
"Theoretically." She answers.
"Theoretically?"
"Yeah. I found the card. I just have to figure out how I reached into my notebook before. It's..." she hesitates, "It's not exactly a science."
"Can't you just pull the Cup out?" I looked around at all the cops around us. People were starting to stare at us as these two argued.
"I can, theoretically. I just... It's not as easy as it looks, Alec."
"Guys, now's not the time to be arguing about this." I said as more and more people looked at us.
"Listen, you two can discuss theory as much as you want when we get back to the Institute. But right now, considering we just stole from the cops, I suggest we get home." Jace said.
"Guys... " Izzy started. I looked at her then looked at her necklace as it started to glow. Uh oh. "I think the mundanes might be the least of our worries."
"At least we know the demon necklace works."
"I could have told you that." I scoffed at him.
"Never a dull day. Let's go." We all started speed walking away from the precinct.
"Guys, slow down." Clary called after us. "Oh, I am so sorry." I heard her say. I looked back in time to see the old lady she had bumped into reveal a demon pincher octopus mouth. I jumped from where I was walking "Oh, shit!" I said turning around fully, towards Clary. I got jerked back in the opposite direction, almost landing on my ass because I forgot Alec and I were holding hands. Alec used his other hand to steady me as they all turned around and took note of what was happening.
"I got this." Jace says to us as he walks up to the demon.
"Grandma." He goes to hug her and stabs her with the Seraph blade while he does it and the demon grandmother goes up in flames. He pockets his knife with a flourish of the wrist as we walk over to them.
"What the hell?"
"Language. Not in front of grandma."
"How did it find us?"
"I don't know... but she brought friends". Jace was looking at a cop car that just pulled up. I saw the officers eyes glow blue and I turned away.
"Okay, let's go!" I said starting off in the original direction we were walking in.
"How can you tell?" Clary asked us.
"It's like seeing through a glamour. You just gotta pay attention to the details."
"But I can't see anything." She said looking behind us again.
"I'll teach you later with mine, let's just go now." I said to her, tugging her with my free hand. More demon police officers step in front of us and we all stop in place.
"Okay, there's too many people."
