As the tournament grew closer and closer, Damien became more and more excited and rather overconfident. Everyone was in the dining hall enjoying breakfast and talking about the tournament. Damien in particular was being very involved. "Oh man I almost feel sorry for you guys. Fighting your hearts out and just when you think you'll win it all... Bam! This guy shows ya who the boss really is 'round here!" He proclaims, standing up and doing his signature double thumb pose. "Keep talking, tough guy, the more you build yourself up, the better I'll feel when I knock you down." Yang retorts, a smile of confidence beaming from her face. "Hahahaha, Now I'm worried about the arena! Soon as we start trying, it might get destroyed or something." He jokes as he sits down to take another bite of bacon, all while having a big smile on his face. "Wait, are you exaggerating or...?" Weiss asks with a raised eyebrow. "No, I'm fairly certain big explosions are possible during a fight between the first and second strongest fighters of Beacon." Damien jokes. "Aw, how humble of you to say you're the second strongest." Yang teased. Damien wanted to say something back but stopped himself. "I'll let you have that, Xiao Long. But only that 1." He retorts, Yang just giggles at that. "Well, it seems like you're only going to be in the singles matches. Meaning Team RWBY will own the team and doubles matches!" Ruby exclaims with pure excitement and confidence. "That's the spirit! Up top!" Damien brings his hand up for a high five. Ruby enthusiastically smacks it.

Weiss then noticed the time, "Ah! She's almost here, I gotta go!" Weiss shouts in a panic as she runs out the door. Ruby follows her, "I'll see ya later!" Ruby yells as she disappears out the door as a blur of rose petals. "Hmm. Somebody interesting must be here." Damien comments, "Imma go see. Catch ya later." He waves at everyone but winks at Yang and heads off outside. He sees a crowd forming and goes to an elevated position to get a better view. He sees Weiss and Ruby and in the center is a lady who looks a lot like Weiss and an older guy with a sword. Those two start fighting and Damien can hear Ruby and Weiss yelling from the crowd.

From what he can hear, the guy is Qrow and the lady is Winter. As he watches the fight, Damien's first impressions of Qrow are not great. He seems slower than his opponent but as it progresses, his speed increases and he seems to be using actual strategy. "Hmm, he's just messin' with her." Damien thinks to himself as he observes. Then the fight ends as General Ironwood arrives. Damien bails since he has other business to attend to. He went to the arena to watch some of the early 4v4 fights, trying to get any info he can on future opponents. He had to wait until day three for the singles bracket sadly, but at least he enjoyed the matches until then. He was definitely one of the loudest to cheer during RWBY's fight, barely able to stay seated during the whole match. One of the more notible of the matches afterward was with Emerald and Mercury's team. Damien didn't recognize the other two girls but he had a feeling he'd seen them before. It was something about their aggressive fighting styles that he locked onto, it was kind of bugging him that he couldn't quite place it.

The next day, he was back at the arena to watch the doubles matches. He sees Yang and the girls and sits with them to watch Penny's fight. "Don't worry, I'm here now, you can stop wondering where the champ went." He jokes as he makes his way to a seat next to Yang. "Ha Ha, we'll see how long that bravado of yours lasts when the time comes." Yang replies, smirking from her own confidence. "I'd say through it all." Damien replies, a small smile of his own on his face. "Well it's me and Yang up next for the doubles, so you're going to have to wait." Weiss tells him. "Yang, are you trying to avoid me now?" He said with an unserious offended tone and shocked expression. "Hey, if you had a teammate, you could have been in there already, but you prefer solo." Yang comments. "Only because I want our fight to be awesome and personal, no third wheels. Besides, you know you want me all to yourself." He teased, grinning since he got one over on her. Yang looked a bit flustered and blushed at his comment, but that's when Penny's match ended, Ruby left to congratulate her. It was going to be a bit before the next match so everyone decided to head down below to get some food. "Everything smells delicious!" Damien said in excitement, never actually having tried any of the festival food before. "If you want the best, you gotta try the famous festival ramen." Yang says and that made everyone else real excited to have some. "That sounds nice but quick question...what's ramen?" Damien asked.
