I was shouting something.

I don't know what it was, but it was something.

Blue glasses glinted as the mouth under his moustache grinned maliciously.

I looked to my friends.

Friends?

I... I don't know who they are....

A yellow fox with two tails?

A strange red anteater of sorts with spikes on his knuckles?

A pink girl with a fairly large hammer?

Who... Who are they?

I should know this, right?

I felt myself shrinking. What was going on?

And then... Nothing....

I sighed as I sat down in my cell at the slave house, eyes glancing around warily. Today is a horrible day.

My birthday.

I was turning seven, but that doesn't matter. On a slave's birthday, we're half off normal price, and we are shown of to a large crowd for all to see. I was going to get sold for sure.

"Are you okay?" My cellmate asked me. He was a light brown bat eared fox named Devion. He was only four, so he didn't know how it felt to be auctioned off as a slave. They start this when the slave turns six, the ripe age for working. Nobody wanted to put a very little kid to work, even if they were a slave.

"I'll be fine, Devion." I smiled, so the young fox didn't worry; he tended to do that a lot. Of course, I wasn't the best role model.

"Sonic..." He looked at me, his sunset eyes sparkling. "What if you are sold today?"

"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine, where ever I end up." I said, ruffling the top of his head.

Devion obviously didn't like my answer, but he didn't say anything more. He was a new slave, freshly picked off the street a year ago. I often asked him how it was like, being free. After all, I've been here ever since I was born.

He usually said that it was a lot better than this, but not by much. He told me that his family died when he was two, and ever since then he was living on the streets, stealing food, water, anything to ensure his survival. All that stealing was what got him here in the first place.

An egg shaped, human man walked in with two knights following him.

"The king!" The slave owner gasped, bowing down. "What brings you here, your majesty?"
