The next morning, I found him at a house shoveling dirt.

I walked up to him.

"Edmund?"

He looked up to me. "Forgive me, but I do not recognize you. I don't believe we've met. I would remember such a pretty face. What is your name?"

I thought of a human name I would be called by. "Uh, Madi."

"Lovely name, how do you know mine?"

"Do you really not remember me?"

"I'm afraid I don't madam."

"But I love you Edmund." I lost all my tact and it slipped from my lips.

He smiled sadly and said, "I am already engaged. Besides I don't think we've met before. You seem familiar though."

"What do you mean engaged?"

"I am to marry another woman in a few weeks."

"What?" My heart dropped. "But I did this for you!"

"Did what?"

"I fell for you! I gave up my flight for you! My family, my friends, my own kind!"

"What are you talking about? I'm sorry if I've offended you."

"No! I love you! I gave up my scales, my teeth, my wings, my pride, my claws." I felt woozy and started to wobble.

"Madi? Madi? Madificient! You're the dragon woman?!"

I heard a woman cry out his name.

"You must go. Meet me where we first met tonight at sundown. We need to talk."

I trudged off and watched in agony as his fiancé ran up to him and kissed his mouth.

They were both so happy. As I was before I met him. I went back to my tavern room as salty water flooded down my cheeks.

I waited and debated weather or not to meet him. I don't want a long conversation about how I need to leave him and his wife-to-be alone.

I should get over this. I'll meet him and tell him I'll get out of his life. He already saved me, I owe him his privacy.

Dusk approached rapidly, so I went out to buy some food before I walked into the woods for an hour.

I found a shop that sold bread and pastries, and bought a loaf of bread. I ate it with delight.

Once I headed into the woods, I searched for the place where we met.

"Edmund!" I called. I eventually found a place where a few saplings were broken and the ground traversed.

I heard a loud crack of a branch snapping. I turned around and Edmund appeared from behind a tree.

I cleared my throat when he got closer.

"Edmund, I'm sorry and I wish y–" He cut me off when he pressed his lips to mine. He kissed me urgently and I kissed back.

When we broke apart, he whispered, "I can't believe you did that for me."

"I love you." I apparently forgot my whole plan.

He kissed me again and pushed me against a tree. His fingers wound through my hair and around my waist.

"Your hair is as soft as a unicorn's mane." He complimented.

His mouth explored mine and I thought he would stop but he never did until I pulled away.
