:Saved By A Great Timing

There were still few people on the street and the rain already stopped, but none of the two of us speak even a word the whole time.

I stopped when I didn't feel her presence walking beside me. I looked back and saw her gripping the plastic bag tightly with her head hanging low.

My brows furrowed a little out of confusion.'We're already nearby the agency'.

"Ran-neechan--"

"Are you still going to continue lying to me, Shinichi?"

I'm taken aback after hearing what she said.

Did she heard my conversation with Haibara last time? But even if she, I can't tell her the truth especially in Haibara's condition now, something's really bothering her yet she won't tell me a thing.

Ran looked straight to my eyes. The confusion. sadness, disappointment, and mixed feelings are visible in her eyes and it makes my heart clenched in pain but I wouldn't risk her life in this battle.

"What are you saying Ran-neechan, I don't under--"

"Stop lying to me!" Ran shouted as the light reflected the tears that are slowly welling up in her eyes.

"I heard your conversation with Ai-chan last time. She called you 'Kudo-kun' and yet you're still gonna lie? And that 'organization' you said, what's that? Is that's the reason why you turned like this?!" Her tears starts to rolled down her cheeks.

'I can't tell her about that now, not yet. I'm sorry Ran', I thought before making an excuse.

"So it's really you Ran-neechan," I hope it'll work, "you're the one who's listening to our practice last time in the party"

I can see the confusion slowly taking over her but then her expression changed in just a second.

"Another excuse made by lies" She painfully smirked.

'Oh no, please believe that Ran'

"I'm not lying Ran-neechan" I tried to deny but it seems like she wouldn't listen to even a word that I'll say.

"Is it really that hard to tell me the truth? You know that I'll still accept you no matter what, but please stop making a fool out of me. I'm getting tired of it" That makes my heart ache more. If only she will not get involve to that mess..

"I'm really not---"

"I said stop lying Shinichi! You're just making it worse!" Ran said, wiping the tears that are continuously flowing down her cheeks, "Baka Shinichi!"

'Seeing her in this kind of situation makes me pity her, 'Ran..'

 I sighed before locking my gaze at the ground. I can no longer stare at her at this point..

"I.." Do I have any choice..?

"Oh, Conan-kun?"

(3rd Person's POV) -On the other hand..

Silence envelopes the car. No one between the two says anything after the kids been drove home.
