the loud sounds of aeroplanes taking off fills
the airport as the young girl and her best friend reach the terminal gates.

"oh my baby, i'm gonna miss you so much!" brandi's mother frowns, walking towards her before embracing her in a tight hug, "dad and i are both so proud of you."

"thanks mum, i'm gonna miss you too," a small laugh departs her lips as she pulls away from the rib-breaking embrace.

today was the day at just age seventeen, brandi isbell was moving from melbourne, australia to the united states with her best friend, jordan. the pair had high hopes of fulfilling their longtime dream of starting a successful rock band. the girl absolutely adored australia, she knew she was very lucky to have grown up in such an amazing country, however the both of them knew that they most likely wouldn't get anywhere playing in small pubs around town, so their next best option; LA, california.

brandi turns to her dad who is now stood beside her mum, "good luck out there kid, i know you're gonna do great," a small smile is now spread across the older mans face as he pats his daughter on the back.

"thanks dad," she gives him the same small smile in return, although they were such simple words she knew he meant a lot by them. he had never been the most affectionate person but that's just how he was and brandi was okay with that.

the heels of brandi's worn down chuck taylor's  spin in the direction of her best friend who was just a few feet away, trying to escape his mothers quite obviously tight grip on him, as she peppers his face with kisses

"c'mon mum you've gotta let go! the flight leaves soon," jordan huffs, trying to wiggle out of her hug which makes the girl slightly laugh.

jordan was an only child without a dad, meaning he was all his mum really had. brandi knew he felt somewhat guilty for leaving her although his mum had always encouraged him to follow his dreams and to not let the guilt of leaving her stop him.

"just a few more seconds, i don't know what i'm gonna do without you sweetheart," the older women mutters, squeezing him tighter than ever as the palm of jordan's hand pats her back gently.

finally after a few more moments his mother pulls away from him, letting him take a step back as she wipes the tears falling from her eyes.

jordan looks at brandi, his expression turning from slightly irritated to what looked to be excitement, "you ready?"

"as ready as i'll ever be," she breathily replies, her hand wrapping around the packed suitcase handle.

jordan's mum gives brandi a quick hug, mumbling a sweet sounding 'good luck', before her and jordan give each other an excited glance and walk straight through terminal gates.

brandi's fingers tangle in each other as an anxious feeling rushes through her body. she couldn't believe herself right now, she had never been one to overthink things or doubt her actions, yet here she was starting to think that what her and jordan were doing was simply insane. they were just seventeen for christ sake, she couldn't help but wonder did they really have the means to achieve all they have planned at such a young age, in a city they're completely unfamiliar with?

the blonde pushes her headphones, which were plugged into the sony walkman stereo sat on her lap, onto the back of her neck, turning to jordan who sat beside her with his head resting on his hand.

"are we being crazy?"

jordan's eyebrows furrow, "what do you mean?"

"i mean we're only seventeen, we've barley got any money and we're moving to a different country to try and fulfil an unrealistic dream, how many people actually make it in the music industry? and what if no one wants to play with us?" brandi sighs, tipping her pounding head back, starting to overthink their decision.

"i don't think our decision is crazy but i think what you're saying is crazy. c'mon where's the confident, impulsive brandi i know? we'll be fine," jordan tells his best friend with an assuring smile.

she sighs again, knowing that he was right. just like she'd thought for what seemed to be the hundredth time in a matter of hours, she wasn't usually one to doubt herself, she had always been a very confident person, so this was very unlike her.

"plus with a voice like yours we're bound to go places," jordan adds on, playfully nudging brandi.

her eyes lock with his as her head starts to shake with a chuckle. once again she knew he was right, one thing she could definitely say about herself was that she could sing, and pretty damn well.

jordan flashes the blonde another smile before she pulls the headphones back onto her ears, resting her head against the seat as they get ready to land in the city that would change their lives forever.
