SAM'S P.O.V.
I'm thankful that I spent my entire life being raised by a biker dad, therefore I know exactly how tight to hang on and when to lean on a turn. My dad always said, "There's nothing worse than having a dumbass on the back of your bike that don't know how to hang on! The last thing a man should have to worry about is whether or not his old lady's still back there, you know what I mean?!" God, I miss that man.
Racing over the beach, I can hear drunk teenagers partying around their bonfires. If only they knew how dangerous it is to be out here at night, I thought as I purse my lips. We glide through the thicket of trees, taking a sharp left turn. I can almost hear "Lost in the Shadows" by Lou Gramm playing in the background. We come out on the other side, sliding into pure fog. I can't believe I'm trusting him this much. I can't see shit, except for Paul's hair blowing every which way. I can barely see the bike underneath us. I can only assume he has extremely enhanced eyesight and can see where to stop before my 100% human self goes plummeting over the cliff ahead. I feel him slide his right hand up my thigh to my waist, gripping hard as he expertly jerks the bike to the right. I close my eyes and let out the world's most embarrassingly girly squeal. I blame it on the near death experience I just had and not the fact that his hand is now rubbing my waist in a comforting manner.
He leads the bike away from the cliff, to where the other bikes are parked. He lets down the kick stand and turns the engine off as if nothing happened. I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face if you paid me a million dollars and gave me an eraser to do it with. I start laughing from the pure adrenaline racing through my body. "That was awesome! You're an amazing driver!" I complimented him as we walked towards the entrance of the cave.
I see the signs ahead. 'DANGER' 'KEEP OUT' 'CAUTION'. Well damn! I'm not supposed to know anything about the cave or where they live! I suppose I can act clueless about it. I come up on the rickety steps leading into what looked like a hallway of sorts.
"I can carry you if you're scared to use the steps. I wouldn't want you falling through. Even though I'd catch you if you did." He said in a confident tone.
Remember! You know nothing! I remind myself as I turn to him and say, "I think I got it, but you can hold my hand just in case. And also lead the way because I can't see crap through that hallway." I refuse to be some damsel in distress, but it wouldn't hurt to be on the safe side. Get real, Sam! You just want skin to skin contact. I feel his cold hand holding my warm one as he leads me through pitch darkness. I can hear the other guys and my sister talking to each other. She must have woken up after they got here.
We finally get to the drop that leads down into the main part of the cave. I can't believe I'm here! Not in just any old cave. But I am in fact in the cave of The Lost Boys! It's so much cooler than I ever thought it would be! The fountain sitting against the wall. The huge Jim Morrison poster hanging up to the left. David's wheelchair in the middle of the room. A couch sitting to the right of the wheelchair. And a little nook in the wall which belonged to Star and Laddie in the movie. There's no sign of either of them in here at all, so we must have gotten here before the scenes in the movie played out. Or maybe none of that stuff will happen at all. One can only hope.
I can tell daylight isn't far off, so the boys are starting to look pretty tired, even though they're trying not to show it. I plop down next to my sister and look around in wonder. When my eyes meet hers, I can tell she's nervous. I feel ya, girl. One wrong move, and we're dead. One wrong mention of something from our time, and they'll know something isn't right with us. No pressure or anything. Just sit quietly and keep our mouths shut until we can figure out how to get back home. But there's no rule that says we can't have fun in the meantime, is there? I thought not. Maybe we'll explore this place a little more after they go to sleep, and it's daylight outside. Who knows what's hidden in here!
I felt a hand touch my shoulder, and I probably jumped a mile. Good job smart girl! So much for keeping it low key! I lifted my head, up and up and up. I might as well lay all the way back from how far I'm having to look up at whoever tapped my shoulder. I see Marko standing on the fountain over me with a pigeon perched on his hand. I remember seeing him playing with birds in the movie! I smile brightly and stand up, turning around to face him.
"Did you train it to do that or are you a bird whisperer?" I joked as he lightly stroked the bird's head. I offered my hand to the bird, for what I have no clue. It wasn't a smart thing to do, because the damn thing pecked harshly at my fingers. "Welp, I guess that made it clear how this little dude feels about me!" I laugh and look around the room.
I feel my sister grab my hand and wipe it on her shirt. She looks me in the eye and holds my fingers in front of my face.
Shit, shit, shit! I'm bleeding in front of fucking vampires! Oh please don't rip my scalp from my skull and drain the blood from my body! I need both my scalp and my blood!
Courtney looks discreetly around the room, and her eyes grow huge. She steps closer to me. As close she can get and whispers, "S.O.S.! Mayday! Mayday! Abandon ship, Captain! The deck hands are out of control!"
I don't even have to look around me to know that their vamp eyes are glowing. I can see the brightness of them against the stone walls like lit candles. I have to act natural. Like a freaked out, clueless ass girl. Alrighty then! Here goes nothing! "Oh my God, you guys! Your eyes are all glowing! Did you get something in them? Do you need eye drops because I have some in my bag!" I say in my best fake frightened voice. It came out sounding really tight though. I need to work on my acting. I probably sounded like I'm trying to hold in a fart, but it's the best I could do!
"No! We're just tired and need to head to bed. We'll see you girls after sundown." David says in a low voice. I can see all 4 of them struggling not to morph into their vamp faces as they all but race to the other end of the room where the tunnel is that leads to their sleeping area. Once they're out of sight, I let out a huge sigh. I'm still shaky but thankful that they got a grip on themselves.
"Really, Samantha? You offered them eye drops?!" Courtney whispers frantically with a hint of a smile. Oh of course! Only she would think our imminent danger is funny! I roll my eyes. At least I didn't pass out halfway through the night and have to be carted back here like a sack of potatoes.
"We need to get some sleep and be up after the sun comes up. I'm dying to look this place over before they wake up for the night! We'll share the couch, but you better NOT kick me!" I say to her before stretching out, placing my bag under my head. God I miss my memory foam mattress and soft pillows! "Goodnight!" I whisper yell at my sister.
"Nighty night!" She says to me before we both close our eyes, neither of us noticing the shadow lurking just over the couch.
