Archie felt a tap on his shoulder and looked down at his boyfriend. The two were cuddling after a usual school day, enjoying the warmth of each other. Archie hummed to show him that he was listening and Jughead just pointed to the nightstand."Do you want a cig?" Archie asked and Jughead nodded, not pulling away from him though. It's how it's always been with the two. Jughead never was the one to talk much, ever since Archie got to know him at the start of High School. It took them some months to even talk at all but Archie didn't care — He was able to show him other ways of communication after all.
Archie sat up slightly before reaching for the nightstand. He grabbed the pack of red Chesterfields before giving one to Jughead. He smiled softly as a thanks before lightning it up. Archie just reached him the ashtray in silence. He wasn't the biggest fan of him smoking. It was unhealthy and didn't smell the best either. However, it was better than other things that he used to do. As long as it wasn't escalating, he let him have his way.
"Dad complained again, you know" Archie said carefully as Jughead put out the cigarette "about you smoking so much..." Jughead looked up, staring at him before shaking his head.
"Can't"
"I know. He doesn't want you to stop. He wants you to take it slow. Look, dad is just worried about you, that's all" Jughead nodded, though then furrowed his brows at the almost empty cigarette pack.
"I can ask my dad if he could buy you some new ones tomorrow" Jughead shook his head, resting his upper body against Archie's "He wouldn't have a problem with that, you know that" Besides, Archie didn't like to imagine what Jughead did to get cigarettes himself when he was only 17. Instead of answering, Jughead kissed him. Archie sighed softly, deciding to just hold him.
"Okay but then don't drive with your motorcycle. I don't like that, it's too dangerous" He would. Jughead would do that for Archie because he meant the world to him. However, he hated busses. He hated how there were so many people and how he could never sit in the same spot because it was a bus. He hated busses, which would be the next thing possible for him if he couldn't ride the motorcycle. He did drive carefully though.
Jughead sighed softly and sat up, just to cup Archie's face. He kissed him softly, only to pull away again.
I love you.
Jughead wrote it down with his finger on the back of Archie's hand. Archie looked down at it before sighing softly.
"I love you too but am I ever going to hear you say that?" Sometimes it was hard with Jughead not talking to him. Sometimes he really wished for him to just say it. Jughead could only shrug, looking at him apologetically before kissing him again. Archie nodded, wrapping his arms around him again before resting down on the mattress.
"Goodnight then"
The next morning, Jughead woke up to find himself in Archie's arms. He smiled and kissed his cheek as a good morning, though then noticed that he was still asleep. It was 4am after all. Any sane person would be asleep at this hour.
Thirty minutes later, he couldn't stand it to lay still anymore and untangled himself from Archie. He went to the bathroom to take a quick shower before lightning up a cigarette in their room. They always left the window open (except if it was raining). Once he finished, he dumped it into the ashtray on the windowsill before walking downstairs. He grabbed a bag of popcorn before getting comfortable on the couch, huddling into a blanket.
"Oh, I thought that I've heard noises" Fred said as he walked down. Jughead stopped the show on the TV in order to face him "You know, sometimes I'd wish that Archie would be up so early instead of constantly sleeping in" Jughead just smiled softly before getting up to help him make breakfast.
"Since when are you awake today?" Fred asked during a sip of coffee and Jughead held up four fingers, to which Fred sighed.
"I told you so try and get more sleep. Four hours of sleep aren't enough" Jughead rolled his eyes, showing him five fingers "Also five hours aren't enough. You have to sleep more in order to be productive"
"Can't"
"Then we should try and do something" Jughead shook his head before getting out his phone.
'I can't ask you for even more, Mr. A. I'm already staying here. You're getting cigarettes. I can't let you do that for me too' Fred sighed, putting down his cup of coffee.
"Jughead, I don't want you to worry about this, okay? I know that we've only known one another for three years but you are like a son to me. If there is anything to help you, especially for something necessary like sleeping, I'm glad to get you those"
Instead of answering, Jughead headed upstairs again. He closed the door behind him before crawling back into Archie's arms.
"Morning, babe" Archie whispered, kissing him on the cheek. He sat up to face him, though then furrowed his brows.
"Everything okay?" He added. Jughead just nodded, smiling softly before kissing him on the lips.
