As I'm waiting for Aidan to arrive the nest day, I get a strange message on my phone. Meet me NOW- 331 Harrison Street -St. John's Cemetery. St. John's! That's all the way across town! What have I gotten myself into?
Sneaking down the stairs is my biggest problem. Since my parents room is two doors down from mine, I really have to be careful not to step on the squeaky board.
Tiptoeing across the floorboards, a loud snore stops me. I freeze, making sure no one is behind me, then continue on my journey. I make it out the door only to find a letter at my doorstep.
Don't follow him, child. He is not who you think. - J.C
Slightly spooked, Lidya continues walking. Hopefully to get answers from this terrifyingly gorgeous spook-man.
Finally reaching the front gate of St. Johns, Lidya feels a vibration from her phone. After scanning the empty cemetery, she reads the message.
There is something for you at the headstone with the name A.J Alexander. Don't be alarmed, this is just how I roll;)
What the fu-? Walking to his headstone, she finds another golden feather, this one being the size of her pinky finger and coated in blood.
Her breath hitches, terrified for her life.
A slight wind tickles her earlobe making her eyes raise to find a cloaked man a yard or so in front of her. Faster than light, the man is now in front of her. His breathing is ragged, as if he is in pain.
"Hello, darling."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"AIDAN! WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED TO YOU?" Lidya yells.
"I will explain everything. Just follow me, and please , for Christ's sake, don't yell."
Despite common sense, Lidya follows his still cloaked form. She lays a hand on his back, making him hiss.
"Please,love, don't touch me yet."
She quickly releases his back, raising her brows at his wording. Yet, aye?
After walking for what felt like hours, the two huddled figures reach the back of the cemetery next to the forest's tree line. The pained boy stops, grabbing Lidyas hand and begs her not to be afraid.
"Why will I be afraid?"
"Just," he sighs," please don't run. Or scream. Or injure me in any way."
She just stands there stunned. "O-Okay?"
After staring at her for a solid minute, Henri releases his hold on his coat. His huddled form now stretching out, large cream colored wings spread across his wingspan. He shakes out his wings, rolling his shoulders. He opens his eyes to find a stunned girl. Lidya's eyes roll back into her head as she passes out onto the floor.
He catches her falling form. Afraid of his ward falling onto the ground and further injuring herself.
Gently slapping her awake, Henri frowns.
"Common already. Wake up darling. Wake up."
Slowly but surely, her eyes open up to find a man- her friend?- crouched above her with large wings spread across his back.
"Ho-how?" she croaks.
"I have a lot to explain, don't I? Go ahead and touch one." He coaches.
She reaches out a shaky hand and stops right at the edge of his wing. Looking into his pine green eyes, she gently pats his wing. The warmth of his skin under the creamy feathers provides a stark contrast to the coolness of her fingertips.
He sighs, a small shudder causing her to pause.
"What just happened?" she asks, still stunned from the surprising events that just took place.
"I am someone very, VERY important to you. I am your guardian, Lydia. The person who God sends to protect you from all the bad people that are after you." He watches her face, hoping to find any remnants of care or friendliness he has previously seen.
"What?" she stutters out. " You are my WHAT? So does that mean you've always been there?"
"Yes."
"Even during-"
"That time you went through the Justin Bieber faze? Yes, I was there."
Her face glows with a pink sheen after his admission. "How old are you then?"
"Older than I appear."
Well dang. There goes my chance at a piece of him.
His face, still searching hers, seems to stutter for a moment as he raises his gaze to behind her. His wings shudder in a violent shake of fury.
"Someone is around us right now. I can't see them, but the feeling is there all the same. I need you to promise me something," he rushes, "you need to listen really close to my next few words."
"Okay. Yeah I promise, what's up?"
"I need you to keep a feather of mine. If I am not there for you for some reason, this is the quickest way of contacting me. Just grab onto the feather really tight and say my name. I have to go now. Be good, love."
He leaves her fragile body, shaking in the chilly breeze of his disappearance. His body dulls into nothing, leaving behind no trace of his being, only one of his notorious golden feathers.
