Good day my country people! Hope everyone's doing fine and following the necessary guidelines to keep safe.
Now, to why I'm writing this.......news hit us a few days ago that that one UNIBEN student was raped and murdered, IN A CHURCH. I'm of the opinion that crimes like this can happen anywhere, places of worship oh, school oh, anywhere at all. The other time when Busola Dakolo came out to speak about her Biodun Fatoyinbo, a lot of people attacked her, saying it was long ago, that she was trying to soil his reputation, blah blah blah. See ehn, it takes courage to come out and speak about being raped. Earlier today, I read an article about seventeen Nigerian women and their experiences with sexual assault. It was so upsetting! My blood was boiling and I was like "Father Lord almighty!".
We've probably seen posts with the hash tag #JusticeforUwa and #JusticeforTina. I'm sure we all have... I'm pleased to see that people are speaking us to get justice, people are speaking up against rape. We can't be facing racism in other countries and killing and raping our girls here in Nigeria. It doesn't make sense! I'm also pleased to see people like Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Genevieve Nnaji, Nse Ikpe-Etim and other people are speaking up about things like this. I saw something today that gladdened me.....a male friend of mine posted something on his status. 👇🏾
I had to tell him I was proud of him, on OUR behalf. Please, I'm kneeling, I'm begging you, if you know anyone who does things like this, take them for counselling because in all honesty, it doesn't make an iota of sense... At all.
I just couldn't keep quiet about this. Even if it's only one person who'd read this, it's okay.
Let's protect one another. It can be anybody next. And if we don't do something on time, this would go in *forever*.Another issue I'd like this address....bodyshaming. if you do it, stop it. Stop it, it's not the bext. And it's not nice. It could be done subtly or openly. I was watching a nollywood movie yesterday and the guy said 'she how thin she is'. I know it was a movie, but it upset me.
I just thought to put this out there because I have the platform to do it. Hopefully, the rapist, murderer and oloriburuku in general would be found and prosecuted.
Right now, out prayer is, May the long hand of the law catch up with any one who does things like this.
Amen. We're going through a lot right now. Racism abroad, murder and rape in Nigeria, coronavirus and the Nigerian problems. If you're Nigerian, you know what they are.. 😑🙄
Bye! 💓💓
