Chapter 2: New Friends

*Tokyo, Japan March 3, 2026*

It's been about two days since Grant started playing New World Online. He was currently walking around the starting town by himself since Sinon had things to do in Gun Gale Online. As he was walking though he noticed a familiar looking girl with short black hair and cool grey eyes. "Is that Maple?" He muttered to himself as he looks at the girl who is wearing black armor with red accents including a rose painted on the chest plate. The girl noticed him and smiled as she slowly approached him. "Kakōgan! Hey!" She said walking over and once Grant heard her voice he knew it was Maple. He smiled at her. "Hey Maple. Cool armor where'd you get it?" Grant asked her and she smiled and told him about how she went to a dungeon and fought the boss of the dungeon. Grant was surprised to hear that she did it with her starter equipment and not only that but the fact that she beat it by eating it. He looks at her completely dumbstruck on what to say. "I didn't think eating a monster in her would count as damage or the fact that they have flavor!" He said after a few seconds of silence. Maple giggled and rubbed the back of her head. "Yeah me neither." She said smiling. Grant then cupped his chin. "So you get a rare and unique item for completing a dungeon by yourself and on your first try huh?" He said interested by this fact to which Maple nods. "Yeah. That's right." She replied and he nods. "I see. Well in that case do you know where any other dungeons are?" Grant asked her and Maple shook her head. "No I don't sorry." She said sheepishly then looked like she just thought of something. "Ooo but I think I know someone who might know!?" Maple said and Grant smiled and nods. "Okay then lead the way." He said smiling and she smiled back and nods. "Alright. Follow me." Maple said and he nods and got up from where they were sitting and followed Maple to a Crafter's shop. "This is Iz's shop. She's a crafter and a friend I made the other day." Maple explained to which Grant nodded.

The two walked into the shop and Iz looked up. "Oh hey Maple. Who's your friend?" A woman behind the desk said. She has light blue hair that goes down to her waist and light blue eyes, and her attire consists of alchemy clothes. Maple smiled at the woman. "Hi Iz. This is Kakōgan. He's a friend I made on my first day online. Him and his girlfriend showed me the ropes of the game." Maple explained and Grant blushed slightly hearing Maple call Sinon his girlfriend. Grant looked at Iz. "It's nice to meet you." Grant said and Iz smiled and nodded. "Same to you. So what can I do for you?" Iz asked and Grant approached the counter. " Well Maple said you might know of some dungeons around here and I'd like to test my skills against one of the bosses." Grant explained and Iz was surprised by this. "Whoa are you sure about that? I mean you're a newbie after all." She said with clear concern for him.  "I'm not exactly a newbie." He said pulling up his stats screen and selecting the option to share with Iz and Maple. The two girls looked at his stats and they both went wide eyed at the sight. "What!? How is this possible? All his stats are over 3000 points but his level is the same as mine!?" Maple said and Iz cupped her cheek in thought then looked at Grant. "Kakōgan did you convert from another game?" She asked him and he nods. "Yeah I did." He replied and Maple looks at then confused. "Convert? What's that?" She asked looking at them. "Let me explain it like this. Say Maple you have this avatar just the way you like it don't you?" Iz asked and Maple nods. "Yeah I do, why?" Maple replied. "Well if you were to start another game say like Alfheim Online then you'd have to make a new character all over again!" Iz said and Maple frowned hearing that. "But you could keep this avatar by converting them over to the new game and your stats will stay the same." Iz explained and Maple looked surprised. "Wait! Really?" She asked in shock. "Yeah but you can't take any items or money with you to the new game so you'd want to give those to someone you trust or in an item box before converting to the new game." Grant added and Maple nods. "I see. That's still really cool. So that's how you're so strong right?" Maple asked him and he nods. "Yeah I converted from a different game." He explained and Maple nods. "Well since you're not exactly a newbie then I have no problem with helping you find a dungeon." Iz said and Grant smiled. "Thanks. I really appreciate it." He replied smiling and Iz smiled back. "Don't sweat it. Just come to me for any crafting needs and we'll call it even." She replied and Grant nods. "Sure. You got it." He replied smiling.
