A Survivor in Maple Tree (Sword Art Online x Bofuri crossover)

Chapter 1: New World Online

*Tokyo, Japan March 1, 2026*

It has been nearly two years since Grant Masters got out of Sword Art Online and he's decided to finally give VRMMORPGs another try. He had tried to play Alfheim Online but due to the game feeling to much like Sword Art Online he couldn't handle it. So now he was setting up his stuff to play a new game that had recently came out a month ago. "So is your game ready?" A girls voice asked him and he nods. "Yeah. How about yours Asada?" He asked the girl and she nods smiling. "Yep it's all set up. So let's log in!" Asada said smiling and he smiled and nods. "Alright. See you in game." Grant said and Asada nodded and ended the call. Grant took a deep breath and put the headset on. "Link start." He said and he was transported into the character set up menu. He entered his username and a weapon selection menu showed up. He looked through the selection and selected the one handed sword. His stats showed up and since he converted his ALO avatar into this new game his stats were all very high since his player data from Sword Art Online was in ALO all his old stats were the same. He smiled slightly seeing that there was nothing he needed to change and hit the confirm button and was brought into the starting area of New World Online. He slowly opened his eyes and was surprised to see that the starting point was a small little town with a large tree in the center. "Whoa this place is amazing!" He said smiling. "Yeah it is!" A girl's voice said nearby. The girl didn't sound like Asada so he looked at her to see another girl holding a large wooden shield. The girl had short black hair and cool grey eyes and had a pale complexion. "Oh hello there. You a newbie too?" Grant asked her and she nods. "Yeah. My name is Maple. It's nice to meet you." The girl said smiling. Grant smiled back. "Nice to meet you too. I'm Kakōgan." Grant said. "I see you're already making new friends." A different girl's voice said. The two of them looked towards the new voice and Maple seemed to be confused by her comment, but Kakōgan smiled. "Hey Sinon. Yeah this is Maple. She's a newbie to the game like us." Grant said and Sinon nods and smiles Maple. "Nice to meet you. The names Sinon." Sinon said smiling at her. "Nice to meet you too. So I'm guessing you two are friends?" Maple asked and they both nod. "Yeah. We know each other irl and Sinon said she'd join me on playing this game." Grant said smiling. Maple nods and smiles. "Oh that's cool. A friend of mine irl is a gamer too and she convinced me to give this game a try. To be honest this is my first time ever playing a VR video game." She said embarrassed. Grant smiled at her. "Well me and Sinon have experience playing games so how about we show you the ropes?" Grant asked her and Maple smiled. "Really?" She asked and the two nod. "Wow thanks. I really appreciate it." Maple said and Sinon waved her off. "Don't mention it." Sinon said smiling. "Now come on let's go find a place to fight monsters and level up!" Grant said and Maple nods. The three of them then started walking off but after a few steps Grant and Sinon noticed that Maple had a hard time keeping up with them as she was walking at a snail's pace. "Uhh Maple how many skill points did you put into your AGI?" Sinon asked. Maple then blushed from embarrassment and looked away scratching her chin. "I uh may have put all my starting skill points into Vitality." She said embarrassed. Grant chuckled softly and shook his head smiling. "Well I guess it can't be helped." Grant said and looked at Sinon. "We're not in to much of a rush so we can walk at her pace right?" He asked her and she nods. "I don't see any problems with it." She said smiling. The three of them then continued walking but Grant and Sinon tried walking at Maple's pace and then after asking directions from another player who was a blonde haired girl they found the best spot for newbie's to gain experience. After about half an hour of walking they reached the area but it didn't feel like that long since the three of them had been talking and had become good friends. After entering the forest the three went to find monsters to fight. "So let's start off your torturial!" Grant said as a wolf like monster popped out of a bush. "First off you'd want to avoid damage but I doubt that'd be a problem for you since you put all your points into Vitality." He said dodging an attack from the wolf. "The next thing is to look for an opening in attacking!" Grant said as it lunged at him again but this time he swung his sword and sliced it's head off. Maple went pale seeing this as the wolf turned into data and disappeared. Maple nodded and listened to what they told her about fighting monsters. After about an hour Grant was getting tired. "Man I'm exhausted now. I might call it a night." He said looking at the two girls. "Alright. Thanks for all the help." Maple said she then shifted nervously. "Umm is it okay to ask if I can add you two as friends?" She asked and Sinon and Grant smiled. "Sure. I don't mind." Grant said and Sinon was already bringing up the gaming menu. "I don't mind either." She said and went through the process of adding Maple as a friend and Grant did the same. Maple smiled at the two. "Thank you so much. I really appreciate all the help you've two have given me." She said smiling. "It's no problem Maple. I'm happy to help." Grant said smiling and Sinon agreed with Grant. After the three said their goodbyes Grant logged out of the game and stretched before getting ready for bed.
