A Survivor in Maple Tree (Sword Art Online x Bofuri crossover)

Chapter 5: Trauma of the Past

*March 13, 2026*

It's been a few days since Sinon and Kakogan got her materials from the cave. Currently Sinon was walking around the starting town by herself. Sinon headed into the cafe in town and as she walked in she saw Maple and Sally sitting at a table eating and chatting. Sinon walked over to them and Sally and Maple saw her and smiled. "Oh hey Sinon." Sally said and Sinon smiled. "Hey Maple, Hey Sally. What are you two up too?" Sinon asked and Maple smiled. "We were just hanging out and getting a snack." Maple replied and she nodded. "I see. Mind if I join you then?" She asked and they both nodded and Sally slid over to make room for her to sit down. "So is Kakogan playing too?" Sally asked and Sinon shook her head. "He's not logging in today." Sinon explained and Maple and Sally looked at her confused. "Why not?" Maple asked. "Personal reasons." Sinon replied simply and Sally and Maple just nodded. 

The three girls then chatted about the games new update. "So what do you two have planned for today?" Sinon asked and Sally smiled. "We were planning on spending the day checking out the first floor and getting to the second floor tomorrow!" Sally explained. Sinon nodded. "I see. I'll probably try and get to the second floor when Kakogan logs back on tomorrow too." Sinon said as she took a bite from her cake. Sally nodded and three girls continued talking for a bit more and even found out from two other players that the second event will be happening soon as well. After they left the cafe Sinon went to get some supplies for when her and Kakogan go to fight the floor boss.

*Meanwhile IRL*

Grant was at a graveyard in Tokyo sitting in front of a grave. "I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough to save you! I think about you everyday!" He said as he put flowers on the grave as he looked up at the name on the tombstone. The name on it was Mizuki Takahashi. He sighed softly and had a sad look on his face before leaving the graveyard. As he walked out the Graveyard he texted Asada. 'You logged out yet?' He sent the message to her and wait for her reply. 'Yeah, I'm out. You done at the graveyard?' She replied. 'Yeah. Can I come over?' He texted her back. 'Of course.' She replied quickly and Grant smiled softly. 'Thanks Asada.' He replied and Asada texted back. 'Your welcome :)' She replied and Grant smiled and headed to Asada's apartment and once he got there he knocked on her door. After a minute she opened it and smiled at him. "Hey Grant. Are you doing okay?" She asked him and he hugged her gently before he replied. "Yeah. I'm okay, Just don't want to be alone right now." He replied and Asada blushed lightly from the hug but smiled and hugged him back. "Well you can stay here for as long as you need too!" She replied and he smiled at her. "Thank you Asada." He replied and she nods. They then went into her apartment and started watching TV together.

"So how were things in New World Online?" Grant asked and she looked at him. "Things were good. I chatted with Sally and Maple and there's actually a second event coming up soon." She said and Grant raised an eyebrow. "Really? What kind of event?" Grant asked and she picked up her tablet. "Hmm well from this it looks like it's a kind of treasure hunt kind of thing where you have to get silver medals in order to receive a new skill from a list of skills at the end of the event." She said and Grant nodded. "What about PvP?" He asked her and she looks at the tablet. "It looks like it's completely optional." She said and Grant nodded. "How about we join then?" Grant said and she nodded. "Sure. It looks like it could be fun!" She said smiling and he nodded while smiling at her.

*The Next Day*

Kakogan and Sinon were in New World Online and were heading to the Floor boss's dungeon. They reached the boss's lair relatively easily since there were barely any enemies in the area. They walked into the boss room and suddenly the doors shut and roots from the trees in the room and started forming a mass of roots and turned into a giant deer monster with large antlers with red apples hanging from it's antlers. "Sinon fire an arrow to see if it's weak to range attacks!" Kakogan said and she nodded and fired an arrow aimed at it's eye but the arrow slammed into a stain glass like barrier. "It seems it has a defensive ability!" Sinon said and Kakogan nodded. "Get's it attention I'm going to try and find a way to get rid of it!" Kakogan said and she nodded. Sinon started firing arrows at it and it targeted her as Kakogan charged it and he noticed that then apples on it's head were glowing. "That must be it!" He said to himself. "Fire orb!" Kakogan said as he sent several orbs of fire at the apples and they all were destroyed by the fire attack. The next arrow she fired hit hit it's mark this time and dealt a decent amount of damage to it. 

It roared but didn't have a chance to counter attack Sinon due to Kakogan slashing it across it's neck. Sinon and Kakogan then spent the next 10 minutes timing their attacks to coincide with each others while also avoiding the boss's attacks. after another 5 minutes they finally finished it off and Kakogan was panting softly and looked at Sinon. "That was a really fun fight!" He said smiling at her and Sinon smiled softly. "I'm glad to see that you enjoyed yourself. In fact I'm really happy that you're managing to get over your trauma." Sinon said as she walked over to him and he looked at the red bladed sword in his hand. "I'll admit I still have some trouble mainly with PvP stuff but I will admit that I'm making progress and that I truly am enjoying myself!" He said as he looked at her smiling and she smiled back and nodded. "I'm glad to hear it." She said smiling and Kakogan smiled and nodded. "Well shall we get to the second floor?" Kakogan asked and Sinon smiled and nodded. "Let's go!" She said and the two headed off to the second floor.
