an old friend

he retreated. "you really don't want me here do you?" he inquired
she sat in silence, gazing into an abyss. "fine, i'll just see my self out I guess," he mumbled. he arose and reluctantly grabbed his shoes and walked past her, his head tilted downwards.

as he left, she could hear the ancient locks, of the birch doors, clicking delicately before being put back into place; with each click she flinched- she couldn't bear the thought of luke being annoyed at her. click, click they went, until one final bang, and with that he was gone, and it felt like, to maddie, that a part of her had left

with this, she flopped onto the pillow, the down cushioning her dainty head. she pulled the quilt over her slender figure and set about getting to sleep.

toss, turn, toss, turn.

it took her around two hours to get to sleep, and when she finally managed to it was very brief.

"maddie! maddie! wake up!"
"leave me alone, ugh i'm trying to sleep!"
"come on maddie! now! someone's waiting for you!"
she lifted her heavy eyelids, and she was startled to see a pair of deep brown eyes staring into hers.
"evan! oh my god! come here!"
he proceeded to lean down to hug her, with a big, angelic smile upon his face. she leaned up, and hugged him back.
"i haven't seen you in forever! how have you been?"
"i've been great, actually, ahs is really fun to film at the moment. jimmy is a really interesting character to play; i can't wait until freakshow premiers!"
"neither can i," she giggled contentedly.
"anyway, the bigger question we should address here is- are you okay? luke told me about yesterday."
"what... no, um i'm fine, don't worry about me.." she said, creating a wave of goosebumps to travel across her arms, and a flush of colour appeared on her pale face. evan looked up, embarrassed.
"i'm sorry..... uh... i didn't mean to upset you... is it something i've said? oh don't worry, i'll just...um... go,"
"no evan, please don't! i haven't seen you in months, you can't leave now,"
"okay, fine, but i don't think I should."
"trust me on this, you should. anyway, what's luke up to?"
"oh, well, um, that's why you needed to go downstairs, dammit i've just spoiled it!"

maddie reached for evan's hand, and their fingers locked together. in synchronisation, they carefully walked out of the room, past the landing and down the wooden stairs, hand in hand.
cautiously, they both stepped into the exquisitely decorated dining room; luke had organised a form of party, or get together as such- consisting of the great company of three.
"three is a crowd," maddie muttered quietly, but with vehement.
she was unaware of the volume of the statement, causing luke to look rather ashamed, his fingers fiddling tensely with his long, oversized pullover.

"I'M SORRY OKAY?" he said, hardly recogniseable, a consequence of the ominous burning in the back of his throat. consequently, he began to sob uncontrollably.
"i didn't mean to hurt you, i was trying to help. i've been here, right here, next to you, through all of this and do you even care? seriously maddie?! I cannot believe you! goodbye, maddie, goodbye."
