Dear Diary,
It's been three weeks since the incident with the Heath- Sofias. I will never get used to that. Anyway, they haven't caused any more trouble, they're not doing anything I haven't already seen at this school, and a younger version of me has yet to appear. I'm probably just overreacting, but I can't help but keep my guard up with them. Maybe they'll be the bitches I expect next year, or the year after, or the dreaded senior year. Regardless, I'm not taking my eyes off them. I don't have them all in one class, which is definitely ideal, I refuse to deal with all three Heathers at once. Yeah, I'm just going to call them the Heathers.
Dear Diary,
I walked into the room I dread most of all in this school: the cafeteria. Nothing good ever happens in there, and I do everything I can to avoid it, but it was my turn to be one of the lunch monitors, so I didn't have much of a choice. I pushed open the heavy metal doors and was immediately hit by a wave of heat. The entire room smells like sweat and something else I'll never be able to pinpoint. I walked over to the corner with fewest people nearby, as I always do, still staying alert and cautious of the Heathers. They were sitting at this giant table, made for eight people, but it was just those three. They were all wearing neon crop tops (why?) and acid-washed jean shorts. What is it with these damn colour coded pacts? And why is it always people with the same name?
I took my eyes off them for a minute or so to make sure no one else had managed to die, but my heart practically stopped beating when I looked back at them. Another girl was sitting at the table, and all the Heathers were standing, their arms on the table, glaring the girl down. I stepped closer to them so I could hear what they were saying.
"Who said you could sit here?" The Sofia in pink growled.
"It's a table for eight people, you can't keep it all to yourself." The girl said. You could hear the ferocity in her voice.
"You're a risk-taker, I see." The one in green said, the tiniest of smirks on her face.
"Please. Nothing about this is a risk. You're just two 14-year-olds acting like you rule the world." The girl said. I walked around to the other side of the table to see her face. Lillith. I remember teaching her last year, She was quiet, no distinct personality.
The Sofias looked at one another, a smile growing on their faces. They started mumbling to one another, I was scared to see what's about to happen.
"How would you like to join us? You'll be able to sit here without us telling you to go fuck off." The Sofia in yellow said. My instinct would be to call her out for swearing, but my mind was preoccupied praying that Lilly won't take the bait.
"Bitch, please. I'd rather be me than be with you." She said. and walked away with her lunch in her hand. I smiled, and let out the breath I didn't know I was holding in. The Sofias didn't look so happy, though.
"Are you kidding? We just gave you the offer of a lifetime! You can't just turn it down!" The Sofia in green said. Lilly whirled around, her blonde hair flying behind her.
"'The offer of a lifetime'? It's a fucking high school clique and the worst clique of them all! I think I can survive this year without being a dick, I've done it for a year longer than you." She said. I grin. She may not have had a personality last year, but this year she isn't taking shit from anyone.
"Sure, you survived, but you didn't live! There's a difference. Join us, and you can live!" The Sofia in yellow said. She's been quiet this whole time. The other Sofias nodded and agreed with her."Living with you would be a nightmare. Now leave me the fuck alone." Lillith said, turning around again.
"Wha-What are you talking about?! You're the one who sat down here!" The Sofia in green practically shrieked.
"And I regret it!" Lilly yelled over her shoulder. The bell rang and everyone got up to leave. The Sofias stomped away from the table, looking infuriated. I guess they aren't used to being told off by someone older than them.
Note to self: Talk to Lillith again. She's changed a lot over the summer.
