Has there ever been a moment in your life where you were completely and utterly consumed by another human? Has there ever been a moment in your life where you fall completely head over heels in love with someone with a simple glance? Has there ever been a moment in your life where, with one look at another human, you saw your entire future unfold in minutes?

Those moments where now for me as I watched with a cheesy grin and tight chest, Jason hover over the newborn swaddled in blue, tucked safely into his strong and protective arms. There wasn’t a word for the feeling that tingles through me other than pure elation - and slight attractiveness.

“He’s so beautiful.” I murmur softly. My own eyes trained on the tiny little bundle that seemed so lost compared to Jason. Georgia nestles her head against David’s chest, a happy and content smile sprawled across her lips “So, so beautiful.”

“Of course he is, he’s my son.” David boasts jokingly.

I jut over Jason’s shoulder, running the tip of my finger along the downy hairs that coat his cheeks. He wore a tiny little white hat to shield his mop of dark hair and a soft blue sleeper that almost drowned his small body.

“Have you picked a name?” I asked, my eyes never leaving the plump lips or button nose, and the thick eyelashes that had me riddled with envy.

David clears his throat and glances to Georgia for confirmation. She smiles and cutely nods. David returns his gaze to Jason and I. “Meet Knox Jason Donaldson.”

It grabs Jason’s attention immediately - I would’ve sworn I heard his neck snap. If my heart wasn’t already doubled it’s size at the sight of Jason cradling this beautiful boy, seeing the overwhelmed look of shock on his face definitely made it go there. I felt like it would explode at any given moment. Jason’s adam’s apple bobbed as he swallows loudly and refocuses on the baby - Knox Jason.

“Really?”

“Nobody better to be called after.” David hums gently. “So? What do you think? Has he got your approval, uncle Jay?”

Jason was quiet - something he was good at when he was deep in thought. He stayed staring down at the content little boy, drinking in every inch of his newness including the name he was so beautifully blessed with. Suddenly, he smiles. A warm, heart stopping, spine tingling smile.

“You were approved before you were even here, kid.” He says softly. He nudges his nose against Knox’s and I almost melted into a puddle at his feet. “I’m the good cop, alright? When your dad’s getting on your nerves like he did mine, you call me okay? I don’t mind choke slamming him again just for you. I promise.”

David snorts. “Please, like you ever choke slammed me.”

Jason’s eyebrow jerks. “Want to prove it? You're in the right place if I hurt you, I suppose."

"Please spare us the embarrassment." Georgia utters jokingly and David shrugs his shoulder against her teasingly, embracing her quickly afterwards. "So, we can count on you two being the first for babysitting duties?"

"First, second, third - anytime." I say. "Right, uncle Jay?"

He couldn't hold back the loveable grin hearing his new nickname his nephew would grow up calling. My stomach tightened.

If this was his reaction hearing his nephews nickname, what would be his reaction when he was called daddy for the first time.

Jason finally gives him up after stealing him for twenty minutes, and allows me to snuggle the precious little bundle. Newborns had a specific smell and it was enough to fill me with excitement for my own future.
