chapter twelve

"Y/N?" I heard a voice ask softly. My eyes slowly open and start to adjust to the light. "Morning Rem." I say rubbing my eyes and sitting up. "What are you doing here?" he asks softly and I sigh "Had a rough night last night, so I erm came here." he nodded "What happened?" he asked and I took a deep breathe in " Well I cried for a few hours about you and my father. Some about Lily because of the Lucius. AlsoLuciusslappedme." I said the last part really fast hoping he didn't catch it but by the way his eyes widened I knew he heard me. "He what?!" he said sounding angry "He slapped me but don't worry Rem. I'm fine really. I punched him back." I say and he scoffs "The bruise on the side of my face tells me you aren't fine." he growled and I took his hand "Rem, I'm fine. Please just trust me." I whisper and he nods reluctantly. "Just one thing," I started but he cut me off "Don't tell James." he finished and I nod. "Yeah, I'll go get you some hot chocolate okay?" I say and he smiles softly "That sounds great." he whispered. I got up and started to walk to the kitchens as quickly as possible. I ask the elves for a big mug of hot chocolate and they quickly place it in my hands. I smile warmly at them before thanking them and leaving. I turned a corner and saw James walking towards me. My left hand flew up to the side of my face where the bruise was hoping he wouldn't notice. "Hey Y/N." James said and I smiled "Hello James." I say. He eyes me suspiciously "Why are you covering your face?" he asked and I tried to think of an excuse "I erm have a huge zit." I say and he looks at the mug in my hand "Who is that for?" he asked "Oh it's for Remus." I said and he nodded. He started walking away but quickly turned around and with one swift movement he removed my hand from my face. His eyes widened at the big bruise and I could see the anger rising in him. "Who did this? Who? Was it Remus?" he asked quickly and I didn't want to answer. "I'm going to kill him." James growled before running towards the hospital wing. I dropped the hot chocolate and running after him. "JAMES STOP!" I yell chasing him as fast as I could "HE HURT YOU!" James yelled "NO HE DIDNT! STOP JAMES!" I yell turning the corner. He burst into the hospital wing and I follow him. By the time I enter he's already got Remus by the collar. "JAMES FLEAMONT POTTER YOU LET HIM GO!" I bellow and he freezes and let's go. "It wasn't him." I whisper looking at the ground "H-he didn't hit you? T-then who did?!" he asked growing angrier "It's nothing." I mumble walking up to them and sitting down. "Tell him." Remus said and I gave a dry laugh "Yeah no thanks." I mumble. I can feel James eyes burning into my head. "Fine." I growl looking up and locking my eyes with him "It was Lucius." I say and he looks away and starts to storm out. I jump up and hurry in front of him and hold him at and arms length away. "Listen to me." I whisper but he still doesn't look at me "James." I say sternly and he reluctantly looks at me. "I handled it. I punched him, pissed him off, and he even turned a little whiter." I whisper and he gives a bark like laugh "You promise you're okay?" he asks and I nod "I'm fine." I say and he quickly wraps his arms around me. I hug him back "I'm sorry for turning into overprotective big brother." he whispered and I smiled against his shoulder "It's okay Jamie I appreciate it." I let go and he smiles before leaving. I turn to Remus who still looks shocked "How'd he find the bruise?" he asked and I explained to him and he slowly nodded "So you forgot my hot chocolate?" he asked and I shook my head while laughing "I didn't forget it I may have dropped it." I said and he nodded "You owe me." he said and I nodded "Yes sir." I say and he laughs. I stare at my hands before looking up at him "You scared me last night ya know." I say softly "What do you mean?" he asked and I smiled sadly "My father came home after his transformation looking exactly how you did. He even had the unsteady breathing, paleness, and leaking blood like how moaning Myrtle floods her bathroom. I thought I was going to lose you. I thought I wouldn't be able to safe you." I say a tear escaping my eyes. He smiled at me warmly "But look. You saved me. You are 16 years old and have saved me almost 274 times I'm sure." he said and I chuckled "Yeah I suppose. I'll let you get some rest." I say getting up and starting to walk away but he caught my wrist "I wouldn't leave you, especially like that." he said before letting go of my hand and closing his eyes. I smile a little and walk McGonagalls classroom pretty slowly. I get to her door and knock and she opens it with a smile on her face "Good evening Miss Potter, how may I help?" she greeted and I looked at the floor "Id like to see it please." I mumble and she nods. She invites me in and opens a drawer in her desk. In the drawer are loads of little items all that belonged to my father. He left them all for me and I asked her if she could keep them here and she agreed. She pulled out a piece of parchment and handed it to me. I opened it and began to read.

My dearest Y/N, when you see this I'll be long gone. Today would be your 15th birthday, that's amazing. I'm so thankful for you and all you do, I can't believe you're only 8 and already basically a healer. I hope all of the things you've learned doesn't go to waist my love. Always know I'm here with you and that I'm always going to be proud of you. You'll always be my little girl. Love, Dad.

I finished reading and looked up at McGonagall who just wiped a tear from her face. "He was a great man Y/N." she whispered and I nodded some tears spilling from my eyes. "Thank you Professor." I say softly and she nods. "Anytime Miss Potter. Now go relax, I'll give you classes off tomorrow." she said and I smiled "Thank you Professor." I say and she just smiles and nods. The rest of the day I spent up in my dorm with the curtains around my bed closed. I took at least three naps and looked through some pictures five times. All together it was a pretty intense day.
