"Well I know when you're around 'cause I know the sound
I know the sound, of your heart"
Ashton's POV
-
I wondered around the party for about half an hour looking for her. Surely I would recognize her if I saw her, right? It's almost like she has an aura that just captivates me. Michael and Calum were probably off talking to some girls, but I couldn't seem to find Luke anywhere. That's weird, I thought, considering he usually follows me around at parties when Elizabeth's not there. I haven't seen her either, so maybe everyone is just hiding from me. Luke gets nervous at parties, and so I usually keep him company so he won't look so lost. As soon as Elizabeth arrives though, he directs all of his attention to her. Finally, I see Luke appear, but he storms off from the direction of the front door towards the back door. A second later, I spot her... her hair cascades off her back like a waterfall, her beautiful green eyes glimmer with anticipation, and she is wearing a dress that is the most intoxicating thing I've ever witnessed... half of me wants to go right up to her, but the other half of me wants to go check on Luke. I figure that it's a problem with Elizabeth, but they never fight. I spot Elizabeth standing alone, looking sad, but her friend is no where around. I decide to approach Elizabeth, and maybe get her to tell me about her friend and what happened with Luke. "Hey-" I start as I approach Elizabeth. "Sorry I can't talk I have to go find-" just then, as she begins to walk off I see her friend walking back towards us. She looked so beautiful, but I didn't want to leave Luke alone somewhere. Usually when he's upset, I'm the one to comfort him, but I just don't know if I could give up talking to Elizabeth's friend. I finally am snapped out of my thought process when she asks me, "Hey, where'd Elizabeth go?" "Um I think she went to go find Luke," I reply, "they got into a little fight, right?" She sets down two glasses of some kind of drink that's probably been spiked on the table next to us. "Um yeah, I think so..." she responds to me, "Ashton, right?" "Yeah, and you?" I ask, anxious to discover the girl's identity. "Delilah" she answers. "Ah cool name" I respond, and immediately regret it. "Cool name." Really, Ashton? "Oh, thank you, it was my grandmother's name." she reported. "So do you know what happened between Elizabeth and Luke, if you don't mind my nosy-ness" I went on. "Oh, no I don't really know what happened she just got here and he immediately came up to her and was getting a little crazy about her being 30 minutes late," she half-mumbled, "I don't really understand what happened, but Elizabeth seemed really upset." "Oh, that's strange... I mean I know Luke can get crazy after he's left alone at parties, because they make him anxious, but he normally hangs out with me until Elizabeth gets here... He wasn't with me this time, and speaking of, I don't really know where he's been the whole time..." I wondered. "Oh no, now I'm really worried about Elizabeth... she can be very sensitive at times." she fretted. "Nonono, I'm sure she'll be okay," I countered, "we can go look for them if you want..." "Yes that'd be nice," Delilah quavered, "usually she... doesn't leave... me like this..." Tears started to form at the corners of her eyes. "I'm sorry, I don't usually cry like this, it's just been a long week for me, and I'm really worried about Elizabeth and Luke's relationship... it's just they've been acting so tense lately." Delilah croaked. "No, really, it's fine. I understand where you're coming from." I half-whispered. "Are you sure?" she murmured. "Yes, really." I insisted. We headed off, looking for the pair, when I suggested going out the back door. I saw him head towards that way, so he must've been going outside, right? But, why? We headed towards the back door, when someone rushed in front of us, gossiping over the phone about a fight, and then we began to hear loud arguing. I look over at Delilah and see a worried expression crossing her face. The back door swings open, and sure enough, Elizabeth and Luke are arguing in the yard under an oak tree. "Oh no..." Delilah began to cry. I quickly closed the back door and lead her upstairs to an empty hallway. I sat her down on a love seat across from the master bedroom. "Hey, it's gonna be okay, I promise." I reassured her. "I promise I really don't cry this much... I just... I dunno it's hard seeing Elizabeth so stressed when she's normally so happy and I've just had a really long week and school has been stressing me out and I haven't been getting enough sleep and I-" she rambled. "Hey, if you ever want to talk about it I'm always here." I cut her off. "Okay... that'd be nice. Sometimes Elizabeth can be so distant and hard to talk to, but it's nice to know I can talk to someone, finally." Suddenly, my phone dinged... it was from Luke.
From: Luke
Come on we're leaving
Oh no... I forgot he drove me here... and now I've gotta leave with him. I hate driving with him when he's mad, and even worse I'd hate to leave Delilah here all alone.
To: Luke
Nah I'm gonna stay a little longer I'll call a cab or something
I replied. "Who was that?" Delilah questioned. "Oh it's just... my mom she wants to know when I'm getting home." I lied. "Oh you have an overprotective mom, me too. I had to sneak out to get here." Delilah mumbled, as she laid her head on my shoulder.
From: Luke
K whatever.
Oh no. He used a period at the end of his text... he must be really upset. What could be going on with him and Elizabeth? Suddenly, I snapped back into the reality of Delilah's head laying gently on my shoulder. My heart fluttered a few times before I laid my head on top of hers.
🌊Wow that was a long chapter compared to my usual. I'm kinda worried my writing isn't all that good, but then again I hope it's just my insecurities talking. Thank you for reading.🌊
