Chapter Eight:

Dimitri POV:

It's 1am - middle of the day for moroi and I have yet to see Rose, I need to apologise for what happened last night, I've barely slept trying to think of things to say. I shouldn't have punched Adrian, I shouldn't have over reacted the way I did - I had suspicions about Rose and Adrian ever since the situation in the Clinic a couple of days ago but now it's been confirmed, I feel as if my heart has just been ripped out. I need to tell her, I need to find and tell my Roza that I am still in love with her.

Adrian POV:

I have looked everywhere for Rose but I just can't find her, if I thought she was avoiding me the other day, then she definitely is now. I shouldn't have said those things about her but I couldn't help it - Dimitri annoys me so much, and I know he still wants her, I thought maybe if I confirmed his suspicisons then he would let me have her but now I think I have made it worse, if anything it's just going to make him fight for her more. I NEED to find her and apologise before it's too late.

Rose POV:

I haven't slept, I just stayed awake in my room all night rethinking the situation that happened earlier. I am still so angry and I know the darkness is only making it worse - I need to do something, anything to get my mind of it. It's early in the morning so I'll grab some breakfast and then do a couple of laps.

Running around the outskirts of the campus where the boundaries are, I can feel myself beginning to relax and enjoy the welcome of the early evening breeze... I mean morning, stupid vampire schedule.

"Rose, Rose!" Shouted Lissa as she, Christian and Adrian walk over to me, this is not want I need, I was just enjoying some well earnt relaxation time as I stopped to catch my breathe.

"Rose, we need to apologise we realise that were all in the wrong, we never intended on making you feel like that and would do anything for you to forgive us" Lissa said, talking for everyone.

"Rose please forgive me, I acted like a dick - I should never have said those things and I do not see you as some whore to play with. I only said those things to get a reaction out of Dimitri and I know that was wrong to" said Adrian with a slight bruise to his face.

"I can forgive all of you in time but right now, I just need space to sort my head out" I said to the three of them but as they began leaving, Dimitri turned up out of nowhere almost panting from running over. "Does everyone have to speak to me right at this minute!?" I said sarcastically as Dimitri walked over to me.

"R-Roza I need to talk to you please" he said trying to catch his breath.

"Yes every one seems to, can it not wait? I would really like to get back to what I was doing"

"No, I need to tell you now. I've been awful to you over the last couple of weeks, pushing you away for selfish reasons and telling you I no longer loved you. The truth is Roza, I am still utterly and completely in love with yo..." Dimitri stopped before finishing as I was shouting frantically.

"WATCH OUT, RUN." I shouting to the others as I felt a feeling build up in my stomach, a feeling I know all too well, strigoi.

Swearing in Russian, I knew Dimitri can see what I am seeing... strigoi entering the campus grounds! "Run, get help" I shouted to where Lissa, Christian and Adrian where standing - knowing the strigoi had not yet seen us. Dimitri and I ran with them, watching out for any strigoi who might jump out at us.

We were seconds away from the administration building when suddenly a bunch of strigio jumped us. Obviously seeing the princess, christian and Adrian as royality - they wanted a taste of their royal blood. I threw my first blow to one of the strigoi approaching Lissa just as other guardian's on petrol over heard our shouting and alerted the school. Quickly we were joined by others, there were too many strigoi - even with our best fighters, we were out numbered!

Dimitri threw me a spare stake and told me to protect the others as he lept into battle. If Lissa and the others weren't here, I would not stay put but knowing their lives were at risk, I did I was told only attacking when approached.

Minutes had only passed and I could see so many strigoi and guardians alike laying dead on the floor. I had taken down 3 of them already, there appeal for royal blood was relentless!
I was fighting off a strigoi, I could tell he had been dhampir before turning by his build - he was strong, really strong and fast too. I was struggling, only being able to throw a couple of punches here and there! I managed to manoeuvre his attacks, I had an opening to his chest but as I went for the kill, I was pushed from behind. A strigoi had attacked Adrian, pushing him into me - I almost lost my balance but I certainly lost my kill shot.

The strigoi who attacked me, came back for more. I was now battling both of them, seeing me struggle another came thinking she could make a quick snack out of the moroi but before I could get a 'back off' blow to her stomach, she was distracted by the flames now spreading across her body. Christian had too seen my struggle and thought to lend me a hand.

"Thanks sparky" I yelled to him as I took down the two strigoi. I need to get you three somewhere safe! Looking around I could see a door open slightly to the novice sleeping quarters just to the left of us - someone popped their head out, gesturing for us to sneak off to safety.
I nodded slightly to the others, gesturing it was safe to move, Christian grabbed Lissa's hand and began rushing her to the building, Adrian close behind. All was safe, there weren't many strigoi left - most the guardian's had taken them down

"Rose watch out" shouted Adrian as a strigoi came to the side of me, I had expected it. I began kicking the strigoi in the stomach and then kneeing him when he bent over sighting, turning to the others to tell them to carry on running as they were nearly there.
"Aren't you hardcore for a young and pretty dhampir" said the strigoi as he grabbed the wrist that had my stake aimed for his heart, "you may be skilled but your no guardian yet" as he punched me in the face, losing my balance slightly he took the opportunity to kick me in the stomach, forcing me down and letting go of my stake.
"Why don't you go back to your training classes little girl" he said smuggly.

"Afraid of being beaten by a novice are you? Or is it because I'm a girl" I said, kicking his legs from beneath him. I got up quickly landing a few good blows but I was stuck, I can't get to my stake that is lying in the floor without him killing me first. I need to look for another weapon, there's a rock a couple of inches away but certainly not big enough or sharp enough to kill him - before I could look for something else, I heard yelling "Adrian no..." Lissa shouted as Adrian came flying out the building, he picked my stake up, just as he was about to throw it to me, a strigoi attacked him, pushing the strigoi I was fighting to the floor with a very hard kick I ran over to Adrian, I barged into him as hard as I could pushing Adrian out of the strigoi's arms whilst grabbing my stake - I plunged it into the strigoi's heart.

"I'm sorry Rose, I saw you drop your stake, I needed to help you, you was defenceless and vulnerable without it" Adrian mumbled.

"Thanks but don't ever put yourself at risk like that again, now get up and go, it's not over yet" I said as I gave Adrian a hand to get up. I watched him as he ran back to the building where Lissa and Christian was waiting for him.

"R-Rose" cried Lissa as she was pointing frantically behind me, before I could turn I felt his presence upon me, it was the strigoi from earlier, he had managed to sneak up on me. He pushed me to the floor, he was on top of me holding my wrists down, if he wasn't trying to kill me, he would actually be good looking.

"You aren't getting away from me this time blood whore" noticing the old bite marks on my neck from Adrian which had not healed yet, I took my opportunity to knee him in the stomach, rolling on the ground we both fought to kill the other - he was truly a match for me, his skills were fresh, indicating he had been dhampir before and was only recently turned.

Still rolling on the ground trying to get the upper hand I heard screaming, thinking it was Lissa and knowing I shouldn't look but worrying a strigoi had gotten into the building I did and as I did I could feel teeth biting down on my neck, damn I gave the perfect opportunity for the strigoi to get to my neck and he took it.

I could feel the life essence being drained out of me...
