chapter nineteen - bella's second ball

Bellatrix and Andromeda sat in the library, Bellatrix reading some dark potions book that was most likely illegal and the latter doing her Charms homework. Two boys knocked on the wooden desk and the two sisters looked up.

Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange's handsome faces met their eyes.

'Andromeda, you're good at Charms right' Rabsatan started.

'She's good at everything, Rabastan,' Bellatrix said proudly.

Andromeda's heart filled with joy at her sisters pride and smiled at the boys.

'I guess, sure.'

Rabastan turned and took the seat adjacent to Andromeda while Rodolphus smirked at him.

'How cute,' Rodolphus said mockingly.

Rabastan blushed and looked away while Andromeda and Bellatrix rolled their eyes.

'Why are you here Rodolphus?' Bella asked.

'Rabastan wanted a reason to talk to Andromeda and needed my to accompany him. Baby boy!' He replies smirking.

'SHUT UP!' yelled an embarrassed Rabastan.

Andy shook her head and laughed with her sister. To the side,a few boys were yelling boisterously and talking about playing Quidditch professionally.

"Wish I could play Quidditch," Rabastan said wistfully. Bella followed the direction of his gaze and rolled her eyes.

"Boys and Qudditch! Honestly Lestrange, he's a mudblood anyway."

"You shouldn't say that, you know." Andromeda muttered.

"Say what?" She was clearly barely even listening to her.

"Mudblood. It's a nasty word."

There was a long silence as the they all slowly raised their eyes to meet hers. Andromeda wanted to crawl under the table and hide from the impending explosion, but she stared back defiantly. Bella looked as though she could not have been more surprised if she had slapped her. Rodolphus and Rabastan looked flabbergasted with their mouths open, staring at the usually soft spoken Black.

"What?" she sounded incredulous, as if she might be misunderstanding her little sister, and hoped she was.

"It's swearing. You should say muggle-born," she said softly. "This boy called Ted told me that it's a slur and it's a bad word to call people of his kind."

"Andromeda...we say mudblood because that's what they are," she said with exaggerated patience.

"They're not purebloods, they have muggle blood." added Rodolphus.

'Whos this Ted person Andy, you shouldn't be associating with those kind! You are disrespecting the name of Black with this!'

'You jean Ted Tonks Andromeda! He's a Hufflepuff and mud blood. He's disgusting, you should stay with your own kind - with me and Liana and Phoebus!' Rabastan exclaimed.

"It's just mean to say, it's a bad word," she insisted.

"Mother and Father say it. They'd punish us if we said swear words. Especially Mother, because it wouldn't be 'ladylike'. It's not a bad word Andy. It's just what they are." Bellatrix said.

'Look Andromeda, I know you and your family well and the kind of people they are. But if you keep talking like this to others, they'll think you're a muggle lover. You don't want that do you?' Rodolphus said darkly.

'No, no of course not. Sorry' Andromeda muttered.

'Don't worry Andy, you're still learning.'
