I walk back into the ceremony room in my white dress. It is not as long as the other girl's dresses, it stops right under my knees. I take a left and separate from the girl I was prepared to walk into the ceremony with. I sit in my assigned seat and wait.
After the auditorium is filled with bodies, the same lady I saw at my testing comes to the podium. She taps the microphone, and everyone quiets down. She clears her throat, "Hello everyone, and welcome to either your, or your child's, results of the future. When you hear your name called stand up and walk toward the podium. You can tell everyone your result, or I can tell them. Any questions?" A mom raises her hand. "Yes?" The woman says nodding toward the woman. "Where will we find our child, if their results are the same as our results, given to us years ago?" The plump women chuckles. She replys, "You will not see your child for over a year. There has been a change in the Eye's laws. Your child will not see you until their next birthday plus a week, in order to be taught and trained to be a good citizen, and a good example for their sector... Anymore questions?" The lady scans the crowd for any hands raised. When she does not see anything, she begins to call off names.
I cringe after all the L last names were called. Then I heard my name. "Stephanie Mathews". I walk up to the podium and shack the short and big woman's hand. I whisper, "I will tell them." She nods and gives me a push toward the podium. I figured I would have to be more courageous in order to be Gallant, so I step in front of the microphone and proudly say, "I am now Gallant."
I turn around and walk toward the Gallant section. When I get there I feel several slaps on my back, and "Good jobs" or "You go girl"s. I smile. I find an open seat next to a girl that I never saw before. She has long black hair that stops right before her hips. Her eyes are a gorgeous green. She turns toward me and smiles. She opens her mouth to say something, but then the auditorium door crashes open.
We both whip around to see who opened them. But there was not "someone" in front of the door, but a large car with more than four wheels speeding through the rows of people. Screams are let out and I see my mom right in front of the car, heading toward her at top speeds. I scream.
