It was around 6 PM and Andrew was heading towards his sick grandmother's house. The sun had started to set and it was getting dark. He had finally reached the village via the bus, but his grandmother's house was far away from the bus stop. He had called his cousin, Stephan to pick him up, but he was taking to long, hence, he decided to walk. The village was isolated and it had already started to get darker. There was no soul wandering outside. As he was walking, he saw a man standing under a tree. At first, Andrew could not see him clearly but as he got closer to the tree, he was able to see the man well.
The man looked very old. He had grey hair and his face was wrinkled. He had a long grey beard that reached still his chest. He looked dirty. He was wearing a dirty green shirt with a pair of brown pants that was partially torn.
Andrew was pretty close to him and he was walking past him. He didn't look at the man face and decided to walk across him, but, the man stopped him.
"Excuse me? Is there anyone here?" He asked with a shaky voice.
Andrew stopped immediately and turned around to look at the man.
"Yes?" He replied.
The man was holding the tree and he was standing still. Andrew was normal until his gaze fall on the old man's eyes.
His eyes scared him. His left eye was brown while his right eye was grey. The most abnormal thing was that his right iris was smaller than the left one. Andrew had never seen such phenomenal eyes before and he was freaked out. He decided to walk away quickly but as soon as he turned back, the man stopped him again.
"Please help me." He said.
Andrew turned around again and looked at him. The man had not moved at all. He was still in the same position as he was before. He was looking straight.
"I'm blind. I need help to go back home. Please help me." The old man pleaded.
Andrew felt a stab of guilt. He regretted for misunderstanding the man. He judged him by his appearance and thought he was just a creepy and dangerous old man while the latter was only a sick and helpless person.
He walked closer to him without hesitation and grabbed the man's hand.
"I'm sorry sir. Tell me where your house is. I'll walk you there." Andrew courteously said.
"Thank you very much my son." The old man replied gratefully.
He smiled and continued, "I need to go further down the street to reach my home."
Luckily, Andrew had to go in the same direction. He nodded and grabbed the man's hand tightly as they started to walk in small steps. He noticed that the man was walking weirdly. His legs were twisting.
"Maybe he is handicapped." Andrew thought.
"Umm sir? Don't mind me making, but, how do you know in which direction is your house?" Andrew curiously asked.
The man grinned.
"I know this place well enough. After all, I've been living here for more than 5000 years." He said.
Andrew's eyes opened wider. He thought that he had misunderstood the man's words or he might be a bit mentally disabled too. The man's reply gave him the urge to laugh but he controlled himself so that he doesn't hurt his feelings.
Andrew gave no reply and they kept on walking. The old man was holding Andrew's hand very tightly. It was completely dark now and there were no one outside. They had been working for only about 4 minutes.
Suddenly, Andrew noticed a light. It was the flashlight of a car. The latter approached and stopped near Andrew.
It was Stephan.
"Hey man. I'm sorry for being so late. Hop in!" Stephan said.
"That's fine, but, I need to get this man to his house. he is blind and it's already dark. We cannot leave him alone." Andrew explained.
Stephan gave him a confused look.
"What are you talking about? Which man?" He asked.
Andrew was shocked by his reaction.
"This uncle right here. The one who is standing to my right." Andrew explained.
"There is no one there!" Stephen said with a tensed look on his face.
"What the.... can't you see him beside me!" Andrew exclaimed as he turned to his right only to see that the old man had disappeared.
His mouth was left wide opened. He couldn't see the man anymore, but, he was still feeling his grip on his right hand. He was sure that the man was still holding his hand, but, he couldn't see him next to him.
Andrew was so terrified that his hair stood on its end. He felt the grip on his hand tightening more and more. He started to feel unbearable pain in his right arm and shoulder.
"What happened?" Stephan asked.
However, Andrew gave no reply. He was in pain. He finally led out a scream.
Stephan quickly got out of the car and noticed that Andrew was grabbing his right arm with his left hands. He groaned loudly with pain.
"Let's go to the hospital!" Stephan shouted. He then helped his cousin to get into the car and drove as fast as he could to the nearest hospital.
As soon as they reached the hospital, the doctor checked him and immediately sent him into the operation theatre.
After two hours, a doctor came out of the room and said, "he is now out of danger. However, due to the attack, the right side of his body has been paralyzed".
Andrew's grandmother had already reached the hospital. She walked inside the room to meet her grandson.
Andrew was lying down unconscious.
Stephan was already inside.
"How was he when you first saw him?" She asked.
"He was mentioning about a blind man. He said he had to help him. But there was no man around." Stephan answered.
"He must've fallen in the trap of the blind man." Grandmother said in sad tone.
Stephan gave her a confused look.
His grandmother looked at him with seriousness and said, "He is the ghost of a blind man and it is said that he had been haunting the street for more than 5000 years. All those who have fallen into his trap and agreed to help have died of heart attack. Fortunately, Andrew offered him his right hand. If only he held the man's hand with his left hand, he would have suffered from a severe heart attack since the heart is situated to the left."
