A FEW YEARS LATER

Harry walked out of the fireplace into Draco's home office at Grimmauld Place in a pit of green flames. Draco stood bent over a cauldron while two-year-old James Scorpius sat on the floor by his feet. Harry quickly dropped his workbag by the fireplace and went over to pick up his son who had squeaked happily as soon as he had seen Harry. Draco simply raised a hand to acknowledge him before promptly picking up his quill to scribble something down on a piece of parchment.

"How's the potion coming along love?" Harry peeked over his husbands' shoulder to inspect the potion he was working on. Green smoke rose from an almost gold potion and only the smallest bubbles broke the smooth surface. Draco finished his notes and finally turned around to face Harry. When his saw their son in Harry's arms a fond smile found its way to his face.

"I'm getting there. I just need to figure out why the smoke is green when it should be pink. As soon as I get that fixed, we should be able to start giving it to the patients." Draco ruffled James' dark hair, which caused the boy to giggle.

"How was your day? Many questions from the fifth years?" Draco's voice took on a more serious note at the second question. Harry sighted slightly and shifted his grip on James. It was in year five that Professor Binns went through the second Wizarding war. He always warned Harry about it beforehand, so he was prepared when they ultimately arrived at their next class with Harry full of questions. He was used to it after working at Hogwarts for five years, and while he didn't mind answering the kids' questions, it did leave him rather exhausted by the end of the day.

"Yeah, but this year they actually had a lot of really good ones. One girl even asked about us." Harry laughed lightly at Draco's uncomfortable face. The Malfoy family's involvement in the war was another thing that Binns spoke swiftly about.

Harry usually kept his private life just that, private. Harry and Draco's relationship had managed to stay mostly under the radar for the first part of their relationship. Marriage on the other hand is a whole other thing, so when they got married last year and Draco took Harry's name, it was all over the papers for weeks.

"What exactly did she ask?" Draco tried to keep his voice neutral, but Harry knew his husband well enough to know how he really felt about the subject. Time heals many wounds, but they will still leave scars.

"She wondered how we ended up together, considering our roles in the war. "How did the Savior end up with a death eater" were her exact words if I remember correctly."

"And what might have been the Saviors answer if I may ask?" Draco's voice was playful and he stepped forward so that he stood right in front of Harry. Harry simply rolled his eyes.

"Well, I think the Savior said something along the lines of "kids shouldn't be judged by their actions in a situation like those, and while Draco might have beard the mark back then, he was no more a death eater than I am"... and when I think about it I might have also thrown in something about how love conquers all, just for some extra effect." At the last bit it was Draco's turn to roll his eyes.

"Of course, you'd turn the whole thing into a soppy love story." Harry laughed and leaned forward to kiss Draco lightly in the lips. As he pulled back, he couldn't fight his smile.

"Well it was, wasn't it."

Draco looked between James and Harry. His own little happy family. One that he feared for many years that he would never get. After the war, everything had been taken from him. The fear that came with the fall of Voldemort had almost crippled him. When he had imagined his future, he had seen himself alone, with his reputation in the gutter and no one willing to hire him or be friends with him.

Harry had saved him. With the help from Harry he had managed to build up his reputation and get a job at St Mungo's as a healer in the children's' ward that he loved. The two moved into Grimmauld Place and for the first time in years, Draco had a home that he loved and felt safe in. After a few years of talking about it they finally decided to extend their family by adoption little James. It had been clear to Draco just how much Harry wanted to honor his father by passing down his name to their child. Draco had been more than happy to oblige, and in turn had been allowed to choose the middle name, Scorpius. And when Harry got down on one knee and asked if Draco wanted to marry him, he had said yes without a second's hesitation, and had been more than happy to take Harry's name as his own.

So, as Draco looked at his husband, he could feel his heart swell in his chest out of love. The two people before him were the most important people in the world to him, and he was not ashamed to say it. So maybe he was a bit soppy too, he thought as he leaned forward and kissed Harry passionately. When they pulled apart, they were both smiling.

"It sure was!"
