The silver accessory was soiled. Nobody believed Hoseok actually dared to put his hand near that rotten corpse, but he knows he has seen that shine from somewhere before.
Jin took out a almost perfectly convenient bottle of water and sprayed the chain while Hoseok stretched his arm out.
Half a heart. Another half which fits perfectly. That other half was with Yoongi.
He snatched the necklace right out of Hoseok's palms and scratched out remaining dirt that was coving up the engravings.
Oh they all have definitely seen that before.
All eyes widened. All hearts dropped. A pain in their chest. A pain Taehyung felt the most. A pain Yoongi couldn't comprehend.
There it was, engraved into the metal "yg" and half of a plus sign.
His eyes were playing with him, it has to be false. He scraped at the letters with his nails, as hard as he could, even if his nails falls off.
It cannot be. It must be fake, its fake, if he keeps up the scratching, the engravings will fall into something different, a whole new thing. Nothing that belongs to Ji—
"Yoongi stop it! STOP! You gotta stop!"
Namjoon reached out but ended up getting himself scratched. As Jin held him down as the others tried to pull him away from that necklace. "STOP!"
Everyone was perspiring at that moment. Yoongi's face red. The accessory fell into the hands of Taehyung. He carefully looked at it with quivering lips. The scratch marks from Yoongi but the letter engravings was still clear as day. No way to deny who it belonged to. Everyone was way too stressed, everyone had tears in their eyes whether they liked it or not.
Tae's eyes shifted towards Yoongi and back towards the necklace.
He approached the other man, whole body practically shaking. Tae snaked his hands towards the chain around Yoongi's neck and put the one in his hands next to one another. "Yg+Jm"
Perfect fit. Well..the one with "yg" had the tiniest piece chipped off. But it was the pair, no doubt. No one knew what to say. Even Yoongi fell silent.
Maybe they finally really confirmed it this time but truth be told no one wanted to believe it. He isn't dead. Is what they tell themselves. What they want their hearts to believe so they can stop feeling this pain, carrying the weight of it all everyday. And in that weight, they thought maybe the smallest piece of hope still existed. But maybe not anymore.. not now.
Yoongi was the first to move a muscle. He stood up. Face expressionless but his heart feeling to much things at once. Hundred needles through his heart. That was what it felt like. This was it. It is what it is they had to accept that. It was just impossible to.
Fingers on the pendant hanging on his neck, Yoongi turned away and started walking. Nothing left to do. They wanted to check what that smell was. They found the answer. They got what they wanted but at what cost. They didn't know if they regretted ever walking there.
Then slowly but surely, they all slowly made their way back. Taehyung sobbing while holding the pendant tightly, metal digging into his skin but he did not care. Not anymore. There were still six.. at least they're not alone.
-
"Tae?"
"Yes Jin hyung?"
"Can i take a look at it. There's something i'd like to check.."
