In the End, It All Comes Together

The following week, Leigh met up with her friends and told them everything that had happened. After she had finished telling her tale her friends' faces looked at her in horror. Jessie's Jaw was almost touching the pillow she had sitting in her lap, and Micheal had an unreadable expression on his face while the soda can in his hand had been crushed.

"Whoa! That's crazy!" Jessie spoke after a moment.l

"That's not just crazy, that's terrible. What's your mom going to do about it? There is no way that she's going to let you go back, right?" Micheal said.

"I hope not. She said she's going to try to convince my grandma to put Grammie in a nursing home so no one has to go over there anymore."

     "Are you okay?" asked Jessie.

"I think so. Besides my face nothing else hurts and mom apologized for sending me over there even though I didn't like it so I think everything is going to get better from here. We talked some more earlier this morning and she agreed to give me a little bit more space to do what I need to do with my life."

"Wow, It's only taken seventeen years for her to let you go," Micheal said bitterly.

"At least senior year we can do whatever it is that we want! I can take you to some parties!"

"No offense Jess, but I'm not much of a party person," Leigh giggled before leaning her head on her friend's shoulder. The two girls were on Leigh's bed, while Micheal was at her desk. A comfortable silence fell among the teenagers. They were all glad that things were looking up and that Leigh would be happier in days to come. It was a sweet relief to all of them.

Jacqueline peaked into the room to check on the three teens and smiled softly to herself, happy that her daughter had found people she was comfortable around. She knocked on the door causing three heads to swivel in her direction.

"I'm heading out," The woman said, "Stay out of trouble, there's a frozen pizza in the freezer for you guys as well as some tater tots if you feel like it. I'm not sure when I'll get back and I'm leaving Noah here with you guys."

"Where are you going? Asked Leigh.

      "I'll tell you later dear."

*At Grammie's Home*

When Jacqueline arrived, Anne was already sitting at the table. Her fist tightened around the thick stack of papers in anger and in fear. She was angry because the woman before her was the reason her family had fallen apart. She was scared because she didn't bear happy news and the woman was unpredictable. She squashed the fear deep down and sat in front her.

"Given the events of last week," Jacqueline began, "Let's try to keep this civil."

"Fine, what do you want?" she spat.

Jacqueline held the fake smile plastered to her face. She wasn't sure how to approach the situation but she decided head on would be better than sugar coating it, "Louis and I talked it over and we believe it would be better if we put Grammie into a nursing home."

"And why would I want to do that? Nursing homes are terrible, she would get worse care in one of those."

Jacqueline continued on like she hadn't said anything, "I did some research, and found a few in the area that would be pleasant enough. We found one that specifically dealt with patients who have memory disabilities. It would work well as there are only ten people per complex and have a team per each home. She'll be well taken care of. In fact I've already called and they'll have a room ready within the next month. Since you are power of attorney though you need to sign all of these papers."

"I really don't see why I should, why go somewhere else when she can stay with family?"

Jacqueline's patience was starting to wear thin, she didn't want to be there longer than necessary. She needed to be back home before it was dark because Leigh's friend was spending the night, Louis was out of town for work and she needed to be there to watch the children.

"Listen," she growled, "the only reason I'm here is to find a place for my grandmothers to live comfortably. Clearly she isn't in a place that is beneficial to her,it was dirty and she didn't get fed when she needed to. Not to mention, if you're going to hit a 17 year old girl for helping her then she shouldn't be staying here"

     "Now wait, I never-"

"You hit Leigh, I'd believe her over you any day. Now sign these papers so we can get this over with. I'd prefer not to argue with you to get what needs to be done, done."

     "But-" Anne started.

Jacqueline cut her off, "No buts. Sign the papers now."

Hesitantly, Anne took the outstretched papers and began to sign them and took her sweet time doing it. It frustrated Jacqueline to no end but at least it was getting done instead of the arguing continuing.

Jacqueline thought about what was going to happen afterwards. She never wanted to see the woman ever again, she might be blood related but Anne lost the title of mother and grandmother as soon as she laid a hand on Leigh. Jacqueline never liked her mother much, she made everything difficult.

She remembered when she was told that she was pregnant with Leigh. It was an amazing moment and she was beyond thrilled, however when they told everybody after the first month was up Anne threw a fit. She threatened to kill her husband, who was only her boyfriend at the time, causing quite a turmoil among the families. Thinking back on it, she feels quite disgusted.

"All done. Is there anything else that you need?" Anne asked.

"Yes actually," Jacqueline started, "Once this is over, please don't contact me or my family ever again. You've caused me a lot of pain in the past and I'm sure you will in the future. Goodbye"

The End.

A/N:

I hope you found some meaning in this story.

I wanted to say thank you to my Great Grandma who I based Grammie off of in this book. That woman was always super kind and a funny person. She was great at laughing and cheering anyone up even when she had developed her dementia.

When she passed away, even though we all expected it, it made our tiny family really sad to see such an angel go.

Without her I wouldn't have been able to publish this story anywhere because if I didn't have her Grammie wouldn't exist. Thank you for ready this book it really means a lot and once again I hope you found some sort of meaning in this book. Thank you, have a good day and take care of yourselves!
