The smell of jasmine essential oil hit my senses as the automatic doors of the spa opened for us, Victor slightly ahead.
"Victor! here for your appointment?" A purple haired girl, with multiple piercings behind a marble counter eagerly announced. Her appearance completely contrasted with the calming subdued pastels and whites that decorated the lobby. Her hairstyle and face shape made me immediately think of a pixie.
"Yeah, for me and Sang thanks Frankie." Victor replied smiling.
Frankie's face shrugged off the smile it had been wearing,
"Oh, that's strange I've only got you booked in. Are you sure you made the appointment for two?" glancing between Victor and the computer screen.
"I'm not sure, I didn't make the booking" Victor said, pulling his iPhone out of his slacks pocket.
"Sang, do you want to sit down while I sort this out and relax a little?" Victor suggested, the phone by his ear already dialling a call. I looked around the lobby for seating. Sure enough there was two chairs near the automatic doors and one was already occupied by a boy around her age, with dark hair and dark eyes. He was resting his head in his hand.
Shrugging, I made my way over before plopping down listlessly in the empty seat. The whole day so far has been a series of speed bumps. I was about DONE.
"HEY!" the boy shouted.
My head zapped up, taking in his face.
"You knocked my elbow" he explained more softly.
Did I? I wasn't sure... I looked at my fingernails, my fingers curled in towards my palm.
"Sorry..." I softly murmured. I hated confrontation.
Glancing up at the sound of Victor calling me over, I started my way over to him at the desk, crossing paths with a fierce looking woman, striding towards the exit, and couldn't help but turn my head to watch her leave.
As I reached Victor I felt his hand gently take mine which I used as a measure that I'd crossed the foyer. This power woman made me feel awed. I'd never seen that style of fashion and determined energy in a woman before, and it made her seem out of sync with the serenity of the spa décor and calming atmosphere.
The boy from before was summoned with a firm, "Walter!" as she reached the automatic doors, which was clearly perceptible from even my distance, and they left the building. She hadn't even turned her head as she called out that boys name.
Turning back to Victor, I gave him a quick smile and we entered the salon.
1 hour later and we were exiting the venue, feeling pampered and adored. My hair, blow dried into a voluminous wavy style, bounced as I walked as if bopping to the music emanating from Victor's pocket.
Victor answered his phone before they got in the car, nodding in agreement.
"Sang we've got a plan " Victor said daringly. "Ready to party?" Amused at his antics, I nodded and they both set off, as if sensing more adventure.
~*~*~* back at Victor's house ~*~*~*
"Trouble! Where have you been hiding!? I've been working my ass off and want a break!" Gabriel exclaimed, arms outstretched, enveloping me in a hug. I giggled.
"No rest for the wicked then?" I whispered to him, earning a playful smack on my thigh.
"You smell like spa" Gabriel looked me over, " You look like spa!" Annoyance shimmering over his face.
"Victor, why did you let them do her fucking hair again!? They don't know shit! I even cancelled her appointment so I could do it!!"
Victor turned sharply to Gabriel, "That was you!? Gabriel you know we were going there! You're lucky they like me as a client!"
Gabriel dismissed Victor's rebuff, by flapping his hand dismissively in the air, while turning and slipping his other arm around my shoulder. It was almost too smooth and I couldn't help but grin at his antics. Next thing I knew we were walking towards the stairs. I glanced back at a exasperated Victor and gave him insider smile.
"Right Trouble, let's get you a drink, get you changed and have some fun" he said winking. With one hand he collected two champagne flutes and passed one to me. As we walked up the stairs, drinks in hand, I realised I hadn't got the plan for the party and new car from Victor.
Oh well. Trust your family.
