" If you aren't busy much why don't we got out for lunch tomorrow, Zhan?", Mr. Xiao said as he took a big bite from his buttered bread.
Zhan calmly buttered a bread, sprinkled a little sugar, then he put it on Yibo's plate , before choosing to answer his father nonchalantly, " Why?"
" Because on your birthday we were supposed to go out and celebrate, but suddenly you refused to come cause something came up with your friend, as you said. So I think as tomorrow is a weekend we can take the chance to go out as family and celebrate.", Mr Xiao said as he took a sip from his glass of orange juice.
" I don't see any point in needing to celebrate my birthday this year. I mean, every year I celebrate with just Yibo while you just transfer some money as gift. So why are you trying to make such effort of going out and celebrating this year.", Zhan said as he tried to concentrate on eating his breakfast. He was nowhere interested in holding any conversation with his father, for now.
He still clearly remembers the day, two weeks ago, when he found all those truth regarding his parents. After his and his mother's heartfelt cries, though both of their eyes were puffed, and noses were painted red, his mother dragged him to a nearest bakery bought a cake for him. Then she took him to a restaurant where, for the first time in their life, they celebrated together his birthday. Just because his mother couldn't speak it didn't stop them from engaging in fun conversations. As Zhan didn't know hand language, the other way to talk with his mother was through writing messages in their phone. Though it was the very first time he met his mother, but it felt that he has known his mother for his entire life. Maybe that's how real mothers are, they simply make you feel at ease and kinship without even trying.
She had the same bunny teeth as him, eyes as large and prettily carved as him, both tasted same taste in food. She was simply beautiful. His father had to be truly a fool, and blind, to not fell in love with his mother.
He really didn't want to separate from his mother, so he stayed out late with his mother, roaming around places, and simply sent his parents a message making an excuse about not going out with them for dinner, cause he really didn't want to see their faces. Though he felt sorry for not being able to keep his promise to Yibo, he knew he would later make it up to his beloved.
When he returned home late at night , he found all lights were off, which gave him the impressions that his parents might be sleeping. He went up the stairs to Yibo's room, and as he approached the room he actually found the room lit with lights. Yibo was actually waiting for him in his pajamas while going through his favorite illustrated story books. Zhan saw from the door Yibo kneading his eyes in order to drive away the sleepiness, that broke his heart.
He sincerely apologized, and Yibo, like always, forgave him. But he knew he couldn't keep his mother a secret from his love. So the next day when he went to meet his mother he took Yibo with him. Though he knew knew it would take time for Yibo to get accustomed to his mother, and to fully trust her. His mother didn't mind at all that he brought Yibo along with him. On the other hand his mother tried to win Yibo's heart by taking them to eat good food, or by buying Yibo motor bike related toys or t-shirt.
His mother was so sweet to Yibo that it made Zhan feel really happy. After two weeks of every day going out it would be a lie to say if Yibo didn't get close to his mother even though they hardly had any direct conversation. Among his mother and Yibo it seemed that there existed a mutual understanding of a sort, which felt quite amusing to Zhan, as well as to his step-father. Yes, he met his step-father too. He was a rather buff guy, but was gentle in nature. He got along pretty well his step-father.
When it came to his own father Zhan feels like he lost respect for him. He just can't stand his father's presence without remembering the things he did to his mother. There's anger within him against his father. He knows it will keep being there for a long time, without knowing when it will burn out. Though he tried himself from lashing out on his father for all the things he had done for Zhan from his childhood till now.
