The battlefield is no place for distracted thoughts. The battlefield is also no place for connections and attachments to get in the way. A proper soldier must always focus on the mission, always. But to some... this statement is completely invalid. Especially for individuals such as Mikasa Ackerman and Kiyomi.
Another expedition was taking place beyond the walls humanity is caged within like birds. Some birds are not content with the life of being stripped of their freedom.
Some humans refuse to live their days in hiding while being no better than cattle-- doing nothing more than eating, sleeping, and living in their walled fortress all the while knowing absolutely nothing of the world outside. Simply staying completely arrogant of what's out there.
It's not necessarily bad. However, there are those who refuse to accept things and live such a life. Humans are meant for the outside world, afterall. It's their birthright.
There are those who join the scouting regiment-- a regiment of brave soldiers who dare to go beyond humanity's walled fortress. Whether it's a brave act or mere recklessness, that's for the person daring to go outside to decide for themselves.
The Scouts is not for the light hearted. If you join, you must be aware of the risk and trials that you'll face in such a cruel and merciless world.
Many people you've known to become used to, grow attached to, or even love... you must be prepared that one day you may lose them to the monsters beyond the wall. Because survival for every soldier who ventures outside is inevitable. And the world is that cruel of a place.
But even so, some refuse to accept the facts. Some will even rise up against fate, ditch their duties along with their squad just to save one mere soldier... a soldier that means more to them than a thousand men.
This is the kind of people Mikasa and Kiyomi are. They refuse to let the ones who matter to them most, to be killed just like that. These women will rise up against fate... they are the boy's guardian angels.
"Kiyomi, get the hell back here!!" Kiyomi's commanding officer yells out her name. Kiyomi silently ignores her commanding officer's orders and her horse continues to run off from the squad.
Kiyomi had heard a scream come off from afar... she was nearly positive that the scream she heard belonged to Armin. And because of that, she couldn't bear to stick around with her squad, twiddling thumbs any longer.
Kiyomi going against her commanding officer will not be taken lightly. In a matter of fact, such insubordination calls for extreme measures taken in punishment. Kiyomi is aware of this, but merely hopes that it will only result in time behind bars and nothing more.
But no matter the punishment, Kiyomi is certain she won't regret her choice. In a matter of fact, this was why she was hurrying off in the first place-- to have as few regrets as possible.
