At age fifteen,
Hannah devoured everything her sister, Kenni, had done too early. She wore way to much makeup and would go out looking for boys. Her mother would always complain about how her appearance was. Hannah would tell her the same thing every time.
"Well, you messed up on every single one of your daughters. I hope you're happy."
Mrs. Richards would be hurt by this but, it just became a phrase that Hannah would throw around.
But it hurt Hannah every time she would say it. She didn't know why hurting her mom was something she did. But she did it.
"Come on, Hannah." Kenni said, pulling her sister from the house she grew up in. Rebecca was sprawled on the couch, sleeping. Kenni was disgusted by the brunette she used to love. Hannah followed this example.
Once they were driving far from the house, Kenni lit a cigarette for her sister. Her first cigarette. She showed Hannah how to smoke it and Hannah choked. This only caused Hannah to laugh and try it again. "I wished someone showed me how to smoke my first cigarette." Kenni said, lighting one for herself. She had tried to protect Hannah for as long as she could. She couldn't protect Hannah anymore.
Hannah Cohen wasn't like most new teenagers. She smoked, she stayed out way past curfew, and she'd already lost her virginity.
