At age eleven,
Hannah was taking school pictures and her sister was a volunteer to help. Kenni stayed beside her little sister, fixing her hair and covering up the small bit of acne that had collected on her forehead.
Hannah didn't protest, like she would've before. Her hatred had run out for her sister, just like peacefulness of Rebecca ran out. Hannah no longer felt peace with Rebecca. She was fifteen years old and thought she knew more than anyone.
"Whoa, Hannah. Your eyes are blue." Kenni exclaimed as the man taking the picture, positioned Hannah just how he wanted to. Hannah had grew up with the dark brown eyes of her father but now her eyes were a cobalt blue.
"Is that bad?" Hannah asked, scared that it meant something.
"You're just growing up." Kenni replied. "My shifts over. Wanna skip?" She whisperer under her breath. Hannah nodded quickly. Hannah couldn't hate school more than she hated this year. It was ridiculous. She already knew everything she needed to.
In the car, Kenni pulled out a cigarette. She was eighteen now and could buy her own. She never did let her secret spill about how she had got her previous packs. "I wanna try one." Hannah said, eagerly.
"I don't know if Mom would like that." Her sister said, biting her lip.
"You never cared." Hannah reminded her.
"I was sixteen." Kenni may have been a mistake but, she wouldn't let that happen to her baby sister. Kenni had grown very protective of her sister since Rebecca had been out all the time now. Kenni was supposed to at the small community college but, she never went to classes.
"I'm just watching out for you kid." She said. Hannah muttered something under her breath but didn't speak again.
Hannah Cohen wasn't like many sixth graders. She thirsted for the danger, she wanted to be noticed, and she left her old friends even though that had a pact to never ditch each other.
