I run into a side street, desperately trying to lose them, but they didn't even try to follow me. They were only after Grid since he probably smells like injured baby or something. He totally deserves this. But I guess I still have to save him. Grid's powers allow him to skate at blazing speeds, not only that, but they also give him perfect balance and control. But the narrow winding streets prove difficult to build speed in, even for him. They start gaining on him. I have to do something.
"Grid! lure them into a dead-end!"
Grid guides the hoard into a park. The Rats have him cornered against a stone wall. He jumps over them, by ramping off a bench the rats had knocked over. They tried to follow him again. That's when I step in. I spray my sludge across the ground, blocking their only escape route. The rats stick to each other prevent themselves from moving. I fall to my knees, stopping them left me exhausted.
"Thanks, bro you really saved me.", Grid helps me up.
"Don't think I'm gonna forget how you left me behind.", I sleepily reply.
"Come on, don't be like that, Carrot sprout."
While we converse, I start hearing footsteps, that's no good. No one should be in the park around this time. We run into a bush and hide. We watch as two men approach. They're wearing blue hiking jackets and blue track pants. Their clothing is covered in all sorts of logos and branding. 'Terror' is the brand name that stands out to me the most. They're holding rifles. One of the men inspects the area.
"Looks like a harmless prank, captain."
"No, it's clearly psyonic in nature. Scan the area, Ben."
We leave before we can get caught. Even though we did nothing wrong, we still felt guilty somehow. For some reason, running away from these guys feels oddly familiar. Anyway, we arrive home. The rain wasn't very heavy so our coats should be dry by the morning. Mother should be none the wiser.
"Listen, Newt you're not gonna hold what happened tonight against me, right?"
"You know what. I'm tempted to, but this is a good chance to make a deal"
"Deal?"
"Yep, a deal, I let you almost killing me slide if you promise to never abandon me again.", I explain, "Simple right?", I look over to him.
"Fine, you got yourself a de..."
Our conversation was interrupted by the lights in the Foyer turning on, or rather flickering on, the lights are pretty old. We look across the room and see her standing there. Mother... she looked furious, but she was clearly trying to keep her normal sweet face. We won't be fooled. Now at this point, we have two options. The first is to accept our fates, as well as the pain and suffering that comes with it. The second is to run and live on the streets for the rest of our lives. Neither option seems appealing, but honestly, I'm leaning towards the second one.
"Grid, Newt. What are you two doing out of bed?", Mother says in her nurturing and patient voice.
it's a trick. She knows exactly what we're doing out of bed, that motherly voice won't hide it. My choice is clear.
"Make a run for it Grid!", I shout.
We sprint off, not sure where we're going. Anywhere is better than here, so it hardly matters. Mother sees us trying to escape her clutches. She stretches out her hand, we completely freeze in place. She's too powerful, this is bad.
We only managed to take five steps, I'm pretty sure we still manage to break the record though. So that's a plus. Grid looks at me in horror, knowing what's about to happen next. I respond in kind. Mother clinches her hand. A sharp pain runs down my body. We fall to the ground in pain, grasping at our hearts. As she sees us fall, she uses that as her queue to apply even greater pressure on us. This is the worst pain I've ever felt. Tears pour from my eyes; we start to scream in agony.
