My Dad is a lawyer who worked in my Grandfather's Law Firm which is based in Los Angeles. But after my parents got married and found out that Mom can't get pregnant at all, Dad suggested they should adopt a baby. For six years struggled to have a chance to adopt a kid, they finally had me. So once they got the information about six-year-old me, they decided to move to Singapore and start a new life here. He still is a lawyer, an International one.

Meanwhile, Mom was a manager at one of the fancy hotels in LA. Since she moved to Singapore with my Dad, she opens this cute bakery shop near Haji Lane street. I love to hang out in that bakery shop, literally every day after school to help my Mom or do my homework. Mom always taught me to be an independent woman, how to earn my own money even when I'm married so I don't have to depend on my husband in everything. And she taught me to always be kind to one another and also be thoughtful. Mom even told me to take a karate class as well so I can take care of myself in this shitty world. You never know when bad things will happen.

It's Saturday and I'm chilling in my living room then I hear something loud coming from the kitchen and one second I thought it's Noah but no, I realized I dropped my fur kids at the grooming place 20 minutes ago. Mom is always in her bakery shop every weekend, so it must be none other than James Spencer a.k.a my Dad. I kind of thought that Noah and my Dad are meant to be because they always do something that causes a lot of noise, especially when they're in the kitchen and no one sees them.

"Dad! What are you doing there?" I ask him from the living room.

"Uh, nothing!" His 'nothing' means something for sure. I drag my ass to the kitchen and see the mess.

"Oh. My. God! You're Noah in a human-shaped."

"I'm trying to find my pan that I usually use for cooking. Do you know where it is?" He asks still busy looking for it inside the cabinet.

"The blue one? That one was damaged, remember?"

"Oh yeah, right. And?" He looks confused.

"And Mom bought a new one."

"This one?" He holding it up.

"Yes, that one on your hand. Use that one to cook."

"Okay then. By the way, when you will pick Archie and Noah?" He asks while chopping an onion like a pro.

Even though he's an international lawyer but he has a passion for cooking and not gonna lie, his food is good but not as good as Mom's. No one can beat Mother's food.

"Mom said she'll pick them up on her way back home, so I got my 'me time' for myself. Why?"

"Nope, just asking. I'm trying a new recipe."

"Dad, please. You need at least 5 times trial and error to get the right taste for every new recipe." I cross my arms looking at him.

"Trust me, this time we only need one try, and voila! It'll taste great, binky."

"Yeah, you said that same sentences since the first time you adopted me."

"Hahaha... That long, huh?"

"Yup. What's the new recipe anyway?"

"Oh, you'll be surprised, binky."

"Surprise the taste gonna be weird?"

"Surprise that this is gonna be awesome! Go take your ass away from here. Get your 'me time' don't ruin mine. Your Mom and the troublemakers gonna be home soon for lunch so I need to finish this one quickly."

I drag my feet without any enthusiasm knowing that I need to at least eat one spoon to appreciate my Dad's cook even this is going to taste weird. By the time I sit my beautiful ass on the couch, my phone ring.

"Hi, Mom! Are you on the way home?"

"In 10 minutes, I'm calling to ask you, is there anything you want me to buy on my way home?"

"Geez! Thank you for calling and asking. Dad is cooking some new recipe, both of us and our lovely four-legged, know Dad's new recipe always needs 5 times to be in 'okay' level. Could you please stop by Popeyes on your way home?"

"Hahaha... Binky, that's rude. But yeah, I agree with you. I'll be home in 15 minutes with Popeyes for our lunch. See you, binky."

"Thank you, Mom. Bye."

Mom finally arrives and brings Popeyes with her. Ugh, I love Popeyes so much. Especially the biscuits, you need to dip in their strawberry sauce or jam I think. You got to try it, won't regret it.

"Yass! Finally, you arrived! Dad almost made me eat his first-time recipe, which we all knew won't taste good but, it will eventually." I said while taking a peek at my Dad, who gives me a "you need to say that" look.

"My cooking is always good. Right, honey?" Defend himself while kissing Mom on the lips.

"Okay, enough you two. Now eat."

"Okay." Dad and I said in unison.

While we're eating in peace, there's always something my Dad brings out to make the peace won't last as a topic.

"You still with that dickhead?"

"Excuse me?"

"Who's your boyfriend's name?"

"Lucas, Dad. And yes, I am still with him. I don't know why you always bring him up as a topic in every chance you can. If you don't like him or hate him, you could leave him out of the topic."

"Okay, no more arguing about this thing. For the past 3 years, this topic has always made you guys end up not talking to each other for 3 until 5 days. And I'm tired of it. You-" Mom pointed her finger to Dad. "You better stop it now, old man. Let your Daughter live her life."

"Thanks, Mom."

There's nothing that my Dad could do if my Mom already uses that tone on her voice and the pointed finger as well. We continue eating like there's nothing wrong before, as it's supposed to be like this since the very first start. I still don't know what my Dad and my two best friends hate from Lucas though. Mom doesn't like him either but never talks bad about him in front of me. I think that I find Lucas fine, nothing's wrong with him. Am I blinded by love or are they just trying to control my life?
