Chapter 18
Adrian’s POV
“What’s he doing?” I asked turning to Paul who just shrugged with a smile on his face. He knew something and he’s just hiding it. Instead of pressing the matter I laid down on the towel thinking about what it could be. Staring up into the night sky I managed to inch my way closer to him. Laying my head on his chest I rested as he stroked my hair.
“Can I ask you something Paul?”
“You just did.” He responded and I could hear the smile in his voice.
“Don’t be that person Paul.” I deadpanned.
“What is it babe?” he asked in a more serious tone.
“Does it seem like Alex is pulling away from us just a bit?” I asked worriedly. I was genuinely concerned that maybe this was getting to be too much for him and he was going to leave us.
“No I think that he’s just trying to find his place in this relationship. With you and me everything comes easier because we’re used to each other but I think he feels that he has to work harder to be something to us. He tries to do more and tries harder to keep your attention because we’ve been together for so long not much would break us up but with him anything can happen.”
“But he doesn’t have to worry. I wouldn’t get rid of him he means too much to me.”
“He means a lot to me too. I think we just need to show him more because I don’t think he understands that.” Paul murmured.
“Yeah, I suppose you’re right.” I muttered
We stayed out there for a while longer just enjoying the crisp salty sea air as it washed over us. The crashing waves as the sunset was just beautiful and peaceful. He ran his fingers delicately through my hair as he played with strand after strand. Paul hummed as we just laid there enjoying the night.
After a while Paul just grabbed my hand pulling me up from off the sandy beach towel and back towards the house. It didn’t seem like anyone was home. The lights were off but what was curious was that the closer we got to the house the more I realized that something was different. There was music playing inside, it was soft and slow.
“Paul…what’s going on?” I whispered we walked up to the back door.
Paul had a smile plastered on his face as he pushed open the backdoor leading me inside to what seemed like something out of a fairytale. Candles of all sizes and colors were placed all along the floor, on tables, on the counters and anywhere else they could be placed. Trails of red and white rose petals were sprinkled along the floor leading into a different part of the house. A soft song was playing in the background as we came in from outside following the trail of petals.
“Wh-what is this?” I stuttered.
“It was Alex’s idea. He said that you needed a night that wasn’t just about sex, no matter how much you might want it.”
“I don’t see you guys complaining when I want to have some fun.” I said defensively.
“And you never will hear us complain but we want to show you that you mean more to us than just sex babe.” He said more seriously as he led me through the house and to our room. When he opened the door Alex was standing there holding a tray with three glasses on it. His smile is what truly warmed my heart.
