Di-vorce: The ending of a marriage by a legal process.
Do not do this to my heart, people. I have a weak heart as it is. (Just a figure of speech.)
But seriously, think about it. About everything that's happening to me.
First, I'm told I have to get married to someone who's practically a stranger to me.
Then, I have to endure forty-five long minutes of doing something I don't even understand, in front of 200 freaking people.
And then I'm told that all of this will just end in a divorce.
Honestly, I don't want to get married to Jungkook AT ALL! But getting a divorce after all this drama of getting married, according to me, is infinite times worse.
It's not that I have anything against divorce. No. But I'm someone who somewhere deep down wants to have a fairy tale marriage. I want to cherish the person I get married to and be cherished.
I want what my parents have. To see your partner at their worst and not turn your back on them. To hold hands and get through anything life may throw at you, together.
"I'm sorry. I don't quite follow you..."
"A divorce," he scoffs. "Don't you know what that means?"
"Of course I do, but... I'm sorry. If you will excuse me."
I stand up and start walking away from him.
"Katy, wait!"
I walk faster, not really caring what people would think. Hopefully no one noticed, as Rachel is still in the center of everyone's focus.
The night is cold and what I'm wearing does nothing to block the wind. I haven't taken more than 10 steps when a hand grabs my wrist.
It doesn't take a genius to guess whose hand it is. But I don't really want to look at Jungkook right now.
I try to yank my hand from his grip but he tightens it.
"Owww... that hurts!"
"I'm sorry Katy."
He loosens the grip but doesn't let go. I turn around but I still don't meet his eyes.
"What exactly are you sorry about?"
"About hurting your wrist..?"
"Ahhh...that."
"And about what I said earlier... the D-word."
I look at him in the eye now.
"Why did you say it then?"
"I just thought that you would.. how do I put this.. that I should let you know that there was an option.. if you wanted to..."
"It's okay... I don't want to think about it."
"Okay."
He let's go of my wrist and I miss his warm hands but he just holds my palm instead.
"Why are your hands so cold?"
"Huh?"
He takes my other palm in his hands too.
"They're as cold as ice... your hands."
"Ah..."
He takes his jacket off and places it over my shoulder. I feel better instantly.
"Do you want to go in now, or..."
"I guess I'll stay outside for some more time."
"And do you want me to stay with you or would you rather be alone?"
"Alone, I guess."
"Will you be okay?"
"I'm not a kid Jungkook."
"Okay. Don't stay out for too long."
I smile at him and he leaves.
I walk around aimlessly for the next 10 minutes and then I see the ambulance with Rachel leave, so I decide to go back inside.
I see Jungkook sitting at the same table and when our eyes meet I smile at him, but he only looks away.
I walk up to the table and hand him his jacket which he puts on without saying a word.
Our parents come in and join us.Uncle Jeon says, "Poor Rachel. Twisted her ankle real bad."
A part of me is relieved I won't have to go horseback riding with her for another two weeks, or even three if I'm lucky.
I know that this is a terrible thing to think but Rachel is just too much of a drama queen and sometimes I can't stand that at all.
"Didn't her parents come with her Uncle Jeon?"
"No. Wonho called me this afternoon to say that he had a prior engagement, so he was very sorry but he wouldn't be able to come."
"Ah... did you give him a call Uncle Jeon?"
"We called him even before Rachel asked us to call the ambulance."
"Alright Uncle. I just hope she gets better soon."
***
Nothing too eventful happens after that and I reach home at around 1:00. I'm completely spent and I change into my PJs and get into bed... makeup and all.
***
I wake up to a knock on my door.
I fell asleep, again. After all that I'd been through. After all that mental turmoil I fell asleep. Never fails to impress me.
I get off my bed and walk toward the door. I accidentally look into the mirror on my way and I get a minor heart attack.
I really pity the person who's at my door. But that someone is still knocking, so I take longer strides.
I open the door and I find that the 'someone' is my mom.
"Hi mom"
She's a little taken aback by my appearance too. I look like a panda with all that makeup that's completely ruined now. And don't get me started about my hair.
There is NO way that anybody would believe that I am the same girl from last evening.
"Hey sweetie."
"What time is it??"
"It's TEN A.M. darling." She stresses on the ten a.m. part.
"It is??" I try feigning shock but the very next second I yawn... like an alligator.
"Sorry mom."
"It's alright sweetie. Someone's here to see you."
"Yeah?" I stifle another yawn. I swear, my body is my biggest traitor.
"Who is it mom?"
"Your fiancé"
"My who?"
"Your fiancé. Jeon Jungkook."
