Jace was talking to his mother in the kitchen. "Dad's looking good with that leather jacket," he told his mother. She gave him a cryptic smile. "Well, he has always been a bit of a stud." Jace narrowed his eyes at her, trying to discern if she was being serious or pulling his leg. She had a wicked sense of humor; a trait that he inherited to some level. His favorite victim of all time was of course Riele.
His mother saw how he was looking at her and rolled her eyes.
"Oh come on, Jace. You know you get your good looks and charm from your dad."
A head appeared next to hers.
"Oh, so Jace is the good-looking one. I see, I see.."
It was her brother, Xander. He came looking for some glasses and caught the last part of the conversation.
"Now, Xander. There is no need to be jealous of your brother. You know you are my favorite" she coddled him with a gleam in the eye. He grinned. "Mom, please, Jace was not supposed to know that. You know how sensitive he is."
" Oh I hate to shatter your illusions, Xander, but mom always told me I am her favorite." Jace replied gleefully.
"She only did that so you could eat your veggies." his brother laughed.
Their mother remembered how she had to beg him to eat his vegetables as a child.
"And she only told you the same thing, so you could do the dishes..." Jace retorted.

"Now you tell me dad, now you tell me. " Jace sighed.
"Well, son, some things you can only learn by experiencing them. And learning the ways of a woman, is one of the mysteries on Earth. You will never understand them."
Xander looked at his father with wonder. "So what are you saying, dad? You still don't understand mom?"
His mother shook her head. "I think I am going to leave you to explain the "ways of a woman" to your sons. Call me when you need me. "
"I hate to admit it, Xander, but that is exactly the case. Even after all the years, I feel like I still have only scratched the surface of who she is. There is a part of her that only belongs to her. There are doors in the rooms of her heart and soul no one enters. You can get a glimpse through their windows if you are lucky"
Jace looked at him puzzled. "Is that a good thing, dad? I mean I don't want there to be any secrets between Me and Riele. I couldn't stand it. We've been through too much already."
His dad recognised the anxiety in his voice. "Don't fret son. I am not talking about keeping important things away from each other. I know your experiences have taught you how bad that is. Communication and complete trust is the key to prevent that. "
Xander seemed to have an epiphany. "Complete trust, you say?"
"Absolutely son. You cannot allow any room for doubt to creep in. You must be like two intertwined hands. There must be no space for anything between the fingers, otherwise the bond is weakened. Imagine you are hanging over a ledge and someone is grabbing your outstretched hand to save you. You will expect that person to have a very firm grip on your hand. No a weakness or unsurety or you will fall to your death.
That is the same story with your marriage partner. The bond and understanding between you must be built on the foundation of absolute trust so that nothing can shake you when the storms come."

"I know, it's overwhelming, son. And nobody tells you this stuff beforehand. My father did not sit me down and tell me this. And even if he did I don't know if I would have understood it or even cared.

Jace nodded. "I know exactly what you are saying dad. I mean I was in such a bad space anyhow, we couldn't have a proper conversation about these things at all."
"Of course not. You were in despair over your separation. I just needed to know you could get through the day okay."
Jace turned to Xander. "I'm sorry bro.
"For putting you and Glory Through that also. I must have seemed so self-absorbed. "
"You've always been self-absorbed, Jace. Tha'ts why you're an actor, for crying out loud. But you're my brother and I love you, man. And Im just glad you and Riele got through it all. And that you're finally together.
I still don't know what she sees in you in the first place, but like dad says...
