Riele quickly finished her shower and got dressed. When she entered the living room again Jace and his father was sitting on the couch. Scott was showing Jace some pictures on his phone. They both looked up at her.
"You okay, baby?" Jace asked. She nodded. There was a glint in her eyes that warned him she was probably not done with him yet.
"What brings you here, dad?, " she asked.
''Just wanted to see how my favorite daughter-in-law is doing"
"And a good thing you came", she replied.
"Yes" he gave Jace a sidelong glance.
Jace threw his hands up in the air.
"C'mon, Dad...you know she's never gonna let up on me over this.."
"Hmpf.."
"Would you like some coffee, dad?" Riele asked.
Scott smiled broadly ..."that sounds great"
"How do you like your coffee, dad?"
"Black, three sugars..."
"Rie..can you ..." Jace started but was stopped by the glare on her lovely face.
She turned and stalked to the kitchen, leaving Jace open-mouthed.
"Don't worry son, she'll forgive you...you're still in the honeymoon phase after all."
"But dad, I didn't do anything wrong."
His dad lifted his palms up . "It doesn't matter son. Look, you better go into that kitchen and help her."
Jace nodded and got up.
Riele was standing with her back to him at the counter. She stiffened when she felt his arms close around her waist. He nuzzles her neck.
"I'm sorry baby...please forgive me?" He kissed her shoulder and then the hollow of her neck. She melted into his embrace and sighed. "It's okay, you're forgiven. I just feel so. .
"So what?"
"So embarrassed for acting like a teenage girl, running and screaming like that"
"Don't feel embarrassed, if you're scared of something, you're scared of it, and so what? We all have fears or phobias."
She turned in his embrace so that they were facing.
"Thank you Jace. I know I can be silly sometimes."
"Not to mention bossy" he added.
She laughed.
"And you can be an idiot sometimes."
"Ouch" he clutched his heart in mock hurt
"But you're my idiot"
"That's right. Now come give me a kiss and I'll help you with the coffee."
Riele took out the cake.
"So that's where you hid it!" Jace exclaimed.
"I didn't hide it, Jace. I just kind of obscured it. So that you wouldn't be tempted. Out of sight. Out of mind."
"Oh come on, Riele, it's not like I would have eaten it all.."
"Mmmm... Yes, you would have!"
"Oh baby, you're hurting my feelings."
"Jace you know I'm not lying"
"Rie come on , where is the the trust? We can't hide things from each other. Especially not food"
She laughed.
"Whatever, Jace..."
Now take the cake out there and I'll bring the coffee... No, you take the coffee."
They were finally enjoying the cake and coffee.
"Mmm ...this is delicious, sweety."
"Thank you, dad. I didn't bake it though. I'm still learning, but next time, I promise."
"Don't worry, sweetheart, you'll get there."
They ate in a comfortable silence.
After a while, Scott cleared his throat.
"Riele, Jace, how's your weekend looking? Any plans?"
Jace looked at Riele
"Uhh... Not as far as I know...Rie??
She shook her head.
"Well, uh, I actually came here to invite you two on a little trip... what I like to call an adventure, this weekend."
He rubbed his palms together excitedly.
Riele felt her insides knot.
As if I didnt have enough excitement today.
"Adventure, dad? Like an outdoor type of? she asked gingerly. Jace couldn't help the smile forming on his face.
Oh this is just classic 🤗
Scott patted her knee. "Now calm down, Riele, I know what you must be thinking. Jace probably told you all about our family traditions, but I assure you it's not that bad at all. In fact..."
She sat up straight and looked him right in the eye. "Excuse me, dad, but can you explain what do you mean when you say "it's not that bad". And why are you trying to calm me down. What are you planning exactly."
Scott straightened up also. "Straight to the point..huh"
"Look, Riele, I could see by your reaction earlier to that little spider that you're not really an outdoors person "
"It wasnt little dad."she squealed.
"Jace put his arm around her shoulder and rubbed her arm to calm her down.
"It's okay , Riele. Dad doesn't mean it like that."
"So dad, where are you taking us?, "Jace asked his father, all the while soothing his wife's frayed nerves.
Scott smiled happily.
"Well, Jace, you're gonna love this. Remember that wild park I told you about the other time?"
