"Can I walk you home today?" Michael asks Penny as they walk to the school bus together after school.

"Michael we literally live like two blocks away."

"Yeah, so?"

"Michael," Penny lets out an exasperated groan. "What's up with you lately?"

"I don't see what you mean."

"Oh my God! Since sophomore year, you've been treating me like I'm three. Michael I'm gonna be fucking seventeen in a month you don't have to watch over me all the time."

Michael scoffs. "I'm sorry, you'd probably much rather Luke Hemmings watch over you than me."

"What does Luke even have to do with our problems?! Correction, your problems."

Michael opened his mouth to speak, but closed it and sighed in defeat. There was no winning this argument, mainly because Penny was right. Michael was a jittery, lovesick mess, all of it due to Penny. Half of him always felt like he had to look after her, especially after the Luke came over to her today. The other half of him was always nervous to do or say the wrong thing around her.

The bus ride was spent in an unbearable silence, until Penny finally decided to speak up.

"Michael, I'm sorry," she sighed. "I think I'm PMSing and I just can't-"

"Don't be sorry. It's my fault." Micahel let out a small smile, and Penny pulled him into a tight hug, erupting a warm feeling inside Michael.

"Can I come over?" Michael asks after Penny lets him go.

"Yeah, but I think my parents are gonna be home."

"Ooh yay! I love your parents."

"You're so weird."

"I know."

The rest of the bus ride is quiet, but not uncomfortably so. Michael just stares out the window, grateful that Penny is no longer upset with him. He hates when Penny is upset.

The bus stops outside of Penny's house and the two exit the bus, Michael making sure to tell the bus driver not to make a stop on his street. Penny sighs as she sees her mom and her dad's car parked outside. Her parents knew relatively nothing about her due to them never being home, which made it extremely awkward when they were actually home. She uses her key without knocking on the door, and is greeted by her over-excited mother.

"Hello, Penny!" she goes to hug her. "Oh, and Micahel! I haven't seen you in forever! Your hair matches Penny's now!" She chuckles while hugging him. Penny rolls her eyes, careful not to let her mother see.

"Hi, Mrs. Wright. It's a pleasure, as always."

"Oh, Michael you've known me long enough. Call me Jude."

Penny's father sat on the living room sofa reading the newspaper.

"Hello Penny and Michael," he says absentmindedly flipping through the paper.

"Hi," Penny says curtly. "We're going upstairs."

"Okay, sweetie. See you later."

After entering her room, Penny slams the door and lets out a groan before crashing onto her bed.

"Parent troubles?" Michael grins while sitting down on Penny's desk chair beside her bed.

"They act like everything's normal. I haven't seen my them in a fucking week!"

"Doesn't your dad only work until 5?"

"Business trip."

"And your mom?"

"God knows." Her hands fly up for emphasis. "Can I live at your house?" She chuckles, but not in a humorous way.

"Well, if you don't mind living with two over-protective freaks."

"If they're so over-protective then how are you always throwing rocks at my window at 3 am?" Penny smirks.

"I have my ways." Michael smirks back.

The night soon rolls around as Michael passes the time playing Call of Duty on Penny's underused Playstation that she got as a present when she was twelve. After dying for at least the 7th time, Michael sighs while chucking the controller onto Penny's bed.

"I fucking give up." Michael looks over to find Penny typing furiously on her iPhone, a blush coating her cheeks and a smile placed on her lips. "Who are you texting?"

"A friend."

"Penny, I'm your only friend and I haven't gotten any messages. Who are you really texting?"

She sighs while putting down her phone "Luke Hemmings."

"Who gave him your number?"

"He said you did," Penny said absentmindedly.

No I didn't, he thought. Fucking creepy liar.

"Penny!" Jude calls up the stairs.

"What?" she sighs.

"Come down here. Your father and I need to speak to you."

"Coming." Penny exits her room, leaving her phone on her bed. Michael desperately wanted to look at Penny's messages.

I shouldn't, one part of Michael's brain says.

You need to, another part says.

Michael follows the latter part of his brain, and plugs in Penny's password, which has stayed the same for 2 years.

Luke: hey, penny :)

Penny: who is this?

Luke: luke hemmings

Penny: who gave you my number?

Luke: Michael

Penny: oh ok. so what's up?

Luke: the sky

Luke: jk, just thinking of you

Penny: in what way?

Luke: i'm thinking about how beautiful you are and how much i'd enjoy it if you were mine

Disgusting. Fucking disgusing, Michael thought. If only Penny knew what I knew about that asshole Luke He -
